NH to Toronto next week

To my Canadian Brothers and Sisters,
Next week I am coming into town on a business trip; this time I get to ride! I'll be out in Mississauga during the day.

I am thinking about taking the long way by heading up by using a small part of US I81 and connecting the the 406 at Alexandria Bay for the ride in.

How is this route? I am worried about stop and go traffic (yes I know the 406 is a major route, but it travels along the shore).

I've not been in Toronto for years. I am looking forward to it.

Re: NH to Toronto next week

Welcome David,

I believe you mean HWY 401 once you cross over the border. Pretty boring but the fastest way to get to TO. If you have time, take Hwy 2 along the lake passing Kingston, then Bath and a little ferry across on your way to Picton as far as time allows before following signs back to the 401 around Belleville. Much more scenic and pleasant.

Hope this helps,

Mugz

Like Mugz said. West of Belleville you can ride Highway 2 through Brighton, Colbourne, Cobourg ( HWY 2 runs through the old downtown - once considered to replace York (Toronto) as the capital) Port Hope ( also a beautiful downtown). From Port Hope you can go north to the 401 or take a secondary road along the lake. Lot's of bikers do. Nice ride. There is an old wooden bridge which scares my SO but it's safe. That takes you into Newcastle and back on the 401 for the ride through the city to Mississauga. The 401 is the busiest highway in Canada. It is really busy at commuter travel times. If the traffic is bad and you don't mind paying a toll, the 407 might be better across the top of the city. They automatically take a photo of your plate and send you a bill. Don't know how that works for non-residents.
If I can help with more info, let me know

Re: NH to Toronto next week

Thank you both. Yes, I did mean the 401. I've passed through Buffalo so many times now I am bored with the route. On the LT, the trip through the finger lakes and up I thought would be a nice change of pace.
