Favorite ride near home.

What is your favorite ride within 50 km. of your house. Mine is highway 37 between Edmonton and Onoway. It has what few twisty roads you can find around here.

If a picture is worth a thousand words then a few videos should be worth more.
All these roads are less then 25 miles from my house.

+1 on that Ron, although there are a couple of other short twisty rides past the 50klm I like also.

Re: Favorite ride near home.

I live in a big city so there's not much to brag about around here. My favorite day ride takes me from NC north to VA, west then back south into NC, over into TN, back into NC for the final stop at Woodlands BBQ in Blowing Rock NC. it's about 250 miles total round trip, not so sure about the Km's...

one of the roads in this route is 88 in northwestern NC. It's not too hard to find good roads in western NC.

Nothing to exciting around here within 50 kms, most roads pretty straight and flat. Around that distance I can get to the Great Lakes for a little change in scenery though.

Re: Favorite ride near home.

For unadulterated fun, I'll take the "4 Gap" ride over and around the Green Mountains: twisties galore -- up and over Appalachian Gap into Waitsfield down 100 and over Lincoln Gap, back over Middlebury Gap, then over Brandon Gap. Wrap it all up with about 6 miles of sweepers along Otter Creek on Rt 73, then blast north on Rt 30, etc up the Champlain Valley.

or...

Highway 37 is a nice road but that is desperation for a flatlander needing curves.

Re: Favorite ride near home.

I sure enjoy the ride on highway 97 from West Kelowna down to Penticton or as far as Osyoos here in sunny B.C. Great scenery and some new wide roads. Parts of the highway have recently been widened to 4 lane which makes it safer for motorcycles. There are so many great rides here in the Okanagan that it is difficult to choose only one. Lots of fruit stands, coffee shops, and tourist attractions along the route. Best of all is the abundance of wineries in this area. If you are a wine drinker you would surely enjoy the rides. How many bottles will fit into the storage on our LT's.
Cheers,

Jim? Where are you going to get your bike serviced now that kelowna's BMW dealership is closed. Is it going to reopen under new ownership or is it DOA? Ron

Well, I was surprised when we got back from Arizona last April a new dealership opened up in West Kelowna. I attended their grand opening and they have a nice showrom and many of the staff from the old dealer had moved over to the new dealer here. It is called Bentley Motorrad BMW. They also sell a few other brands as well. I will be taking my LT in for service later in Aug or Sept for a 12000 mile service.
I am saving up for a big hit!!

Re: Favorite ride near home.

US 89 from Logan, UT to Garden City, UT on Bear Lake. About 45 miles of curves with normal sized lanes and passing lanes. Logan river is beside the road for about 30 miles. Million dollar views. Semi's can actually drive on the road and stay in their own lane unlike some famous dragon roads out east. Elevation goes from 4800 ft in Logan to 7200 ft at the summit.

It's 3 minutes from my house and I am frequently forced into the mouth of the canyon by the extra strong gravity and I am unable to turn around until I hit the Bear Lake overlook. The nice thing is I can do a quick 90 mile ride or hit other canyons and turn it into a quick 500 mile ride. The only downside is the bit of snow up there between November and April.

Sorry, I didn't notice this was a regional Canadian forum. You should still come south to Logan though because there is a ton of gorgeous country between here and Canada.

Ok. I'm in Iowa, so there's not a lot to choose from, but I would have to say Rt. 81 south out of Kahoka, MO and Rt. 79 south of Hannibal, MO.
