How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

Just out of curiousity I am wondering how many of you bought your BMW in America? If so when and where did you buy it and what model did you buy?

I didn't buy my 2006 K1200LT in the US. I got it from a guy in 2008 who purchased it in 2007 from a dealer in Seattle & it had 7,300 miles on it. Now I have 52,729 miles & I'm still trying to see more places & loving it.

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

Bought my '05 RT privately in Detroit. Saved around $5000 over the few similar bikes available in my area at that time.

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

My 2004 LT was a US model (bought used in Canada). My RT was bought from the local dealer in Canada, I didn't want the hassle of buying and getting the bike into the country, then have to take it to a dealer who I never bought it from. I haven't done the math, don't know if I would have saved money (probably so) if I had bought in the USA, but I am very, very happy with the RT and the local dealer I bought it from.

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

All of them:

99LT from a dealer in OH, picked up
03LT from a great fellow member here, who rode it up to the border for me!
08 Venture, used a shipper - 600 bucks to just South of the border; I did the rest
99 Valkyrie - picked up near Boston

Always saved loads of money, plus it was fun.

Red-tape for recall clearance? BMW is the worst, at least for someone like me whose nearest dealer is several hours away. Honda is the best: self-serve, on-line; the RIV go in themselves and confirm the recall info.

Now's the time, folks! Winter coming, dollar near par....

Can't wait to see the price diff for the new GTL, if any.

2003 R1200CL Silver
1999 Honda Valkyrie Interstate poor man's six-banger
2008 Yamaha Venture - Sold after 6 months; I already miss the casette deck
2003 LT - Gone to be mated with a sidecar
1999 LT - Gone but not forgotten; my first Beemer

How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S. ?

I bought an '03 LT and an '02 RT in Michigan, both from private individuals. I imported the LT into Canada in '05 with no problems whatsoever with either Canada Customs or BMW. The RT is kept at our Texas house and is used only during the winter months. I saved a lot of money plus I had many bikes to choose from. Economies of scale does have its' benefits for Canadians also. Keep warm.

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

I bought my 05 just before Christmas 06 in Key Largo, Fla. I also bought a new 06 Tundra, put the bike on it and drove them both back. Absolutely no problem at either border. Only issue was that I had to wait for the ownership papers to come from Talhasse which took over a week. Other than that I had five pages of warranty work done by the BMW dealer in Mtl in Nov 07 just before the warranty expired.

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

Bought my 06 LT in Washington 3 years ago. Great ride and lots of fun to ride. Picked it up in Seattle, drove it back to Kelowna. Had to pay nthat $500. extortion fee to BMW. Hope the current class action lawsuits will recover some of that back.
Cheers,
Jim

Talking Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

Hi guys;

Bought my 2005 LT at a dealer in NY in 2008. Had 13,000 miles when I purchased it, now 34,000 miles. Great ride, sitting in the garage all apart doing some winter work ( ie. rad flush, brake and clutch flush, all oils and springs( shocks) changed.

Dealer gave me the clearance letter so it saved me the 500.00 dollars!!

Wishing for spring!!

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

Purchased an 06' LT in 2008 from a private sale in Minneapolis. I got a recall clearance letter from a local dealer and didn't have to pay the $500 fee. Very happy with the bike.

Re: How Many of you bought your bike in the U.S.

I just brought another BMW. 17 years old so it did not have to go through all the RIV process. A dream compared to the newer bikes.
