Bad start to 2010 season, but I did get in 300klm. before April came...Ottawa was warm!!!

I see drips under the Final Drive, get new washer, new magnetic plug...all's dry next day, do a change of Gear Oil...start her up, let it warm for 15min., all dry...go for a test drive for 10min....back home, the Final drive literally let all the new Gear oil dump...

So...I'm hearing so many opinions on this I need a sanity check....

1. Just a seal?
2. But a rebuilt one, then learn how to rebuild slowely on this crapped out one.
3. Is this a job for a BMW Master Mechanic?

I would appreciate anyone with intel on this...I commute daily 100klm. and this summer is not starting out well!!!

With your bike on the center stand. If you grab the rear wheel at 3 and 9 0'clock and apply back and forth movement, if you get any much more than minor movement your bearing could have gone or is going and possibly destroyed the seal. If there is minimum movement it could just be a bad seal.
If you can not do the work, you might try phoning Bruno. He does a lot of work on drive shafts, etc. for the K bikes. He is in Iron Bridge Ont.

Took the FD off the bike, (Interesting job in-itself!!), lots of silver bits rolling around, (It's done for!)...spoke to Bruno...he knows his stuff that's for sure...and his price is 1/4-th of what other quotes I am getting...(Guess you don't really know until in is in his shop really).
So off in a box up North it goes tomorrow...
