Group buy K1200LT tires Canada

Hey guys

Who would like to go in on a group buy for tires for your LT? I don't have any contacts for tires yet, but, if there were enough interest it might be adventagious.

I would prefer Bridestone BT020's

Any interest?

Garry

Be careful if you do buy and you don't install yourself. Many dealers will not install anything on an LT that they hasn't been purchased through their parts desk. I know that is the way the dealer in Edmonton works.

I am doing the install and balance myself.

FWIW Open Road BMW in Newmarket put on my supplied tires a couple years ago.

I don't know if it would be advantagious for you to buy tires in CANADA and have them shipped to you the the states. I don't know what type of import duty and taxes you will be charged.

Re: Group buy K1200LT tires Canada

I will be needing new front and rear. I prefer the Bridgestone.
In the past I have ordered via e mail and had them sent to my brothers in the states, he can mount and balance. I would be interested in the pricing of getting it done up here.

Metzler vs Bridgestone

I've only had Metzler tires, so I cant really give an objective comparison, but I can offer my experience to date with the Metzlers.
My original set of Metzler's were changed out at 24,671 Km. They were still OK for tread depth, but I was leaving for 2008 CCR in Utah (~8000 Km round trip), so wanted a new set for safety. The front was lightly scalloped, but no noise. I always ran 40/48 psi with one up. The pics show the tread just before I changed them.
Had new Metzlers installed at Open Road, Newmarket in Aug 2008 for:
Rear $183.71 (list $244.95)
Front $158.96 (List $211.95)
Labour $163.20

These are a harder compound than Bridgestones and thus have longer tread life - but obviously sacrifice some traction.
So far I'm happy.

Re: Group buy K1200LT tires Canada

Hey Cliff

From the reply's it didn't seem that there was enough interest. I built a tire balance at work and hope to make a changer also. I don't need tires right now, but, if we had enough commitment I would get it started.

Re: Group buy K1200LT tires Canada

Garry:

I have bought tires from the US on 2 different ocassions for my LT. I paid about $325 for front and rear Bridgestones.

I have found an independent shop in Toronto that charges $45 per tire to mount and balance.

The price at BMW Toronto, with a 15% discount off of list for the Bridgestone tires plus $90 per tire mounted and balanced was about $600.

Even with the weak CAN $, I think I am further ahead to buy in the US.

I pick the tires up from the UPS depot in New York state so to compare apples to apples, one also has to factor in the cost of a trip across the border and back, but I always manage to do a bit more shopping on the US side anyways.
