What is happening with Motorrad Canada? No longer part of car dealerships?

So what is going on with BMW Motorrad Canada?

They are taking the bikes out of all the car dealerships and farming them out separately. Some of them appear to be joining up with Ducatti and others.

They also haven't even announced MSRP for the 2015 bikes yet the rest of the world has taken deliveries???

Something is fishy...

Re: What is happening with Motorrad Canada? No longer part of car dealerships?

I believe that BMW motorcycles and BMW cars are separate corporations, just like Chevy, Buick, and Pontiac used to be even though they were all under GMC. So while they are under the same umbrella of BMW, they essentially have nothing to do with each other. BMW cars could go bankrupt and have no effect on BMW cycles. Anyway, that's what I was told so that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That might explain things. I think it was also a very "Ontario" specific thing. The other provinces seem to have been sold from Bike Dealerships only and most of them didn't even have BMW or Motorrad in their name lol.

Interesting times...

Re: What is happening with Motorrad Canada? No longer part of car dealerships?

Down here, the dealerships are all pretty much identical inside. The mother-land dictates how they get decorated and how often, so walking into any of them the only difference is the shape of the building itself. That and all they sell is BMWs and Triumphs. The Wichita dealership quit selling BMWs a few years back. I was told that BMW corporate told them they had to separate out their BMW dealership from their very sucessful Japanese dealership so the owner made a choice and dropped them instead. So it goes.

Re: What is happening with Motorrad Canada? No longer part of car dealerships?

In Ontario the bikes and cars were seperate until a few years ago, the car dealerships all, in the GTA anyways, were forced to sell both. I guess it did not work well.

The fella who owned the bike dealership I used to get parts and service from was "offered a deal he could not refuse" - it was that or go out of business.

It will be interesting to see how many dealers we end up with, in the greater Toronto area there used to be only 2.

I was told the bikes were moved out of Serpa to make room for a "M" dealership. The new Mottarad location is in the old Ferrari of Ont building on Steeles ave.W. I am told they may be open by March ??, I am off to Endras for my service.
