Spot the error

Can anyone see the obvious error in this ad?

Hint: It's a big one . . .

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Re: Spot the error

Without knowing the context of the ad, I wouldn't assume any error.

Fair enough. But it was presented in the context of "Spot the error" so you just know there's something glaringly wrong there.

Hint: How many Harleys do you know that have two exhaust pipes pointing straight out the front?

Re: Spot the error

It appears to be one of the many Triumphs built for such but I don't recognize who owned the plate.

The Triumph racer from our local area (Baltimore) was Gary Nixon, plate 9, who was pretty familiar to local riders. At that time the Triumph importer was in Timonium MD right next to the horse track now fairgrounds. Used to test bikes on local roads and undeveloped land (yes there was some there back then, not now of course). All long gone...

Re: Spot the error

I am enjoying trying to figure out this mystery racer though. It's obviously a Triumph ... or Norton? ... or BSA ... or Indian? But I can't find a famous racer that had #64. I'm probably trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Naw ... it's just an optical illusion. Those pipes are behind the frame, let alone the forks.

Re: Spot the error

Yep, Gary Scott on a Triumph is correct. Now Gary used to ride for HD. Even won his division. But his relationship with HD was always rather rocky, to put it mildly (apparently, fisticuffs were involved).

"Gary Scott hated riding for Harley, didn’t get along with the other members of the team, and quit the team shortly after winning the title."

Oops.

You think they'd at least have grabbed a pic of him on an actual Harley, maybe even running the #1 plate.

"He then forbid them to use his name or photo in any of their advertising."

Double oops . . .
