I was thinking about how things change

I got my first dirt bike when I was 13. I'm 65 now. You do the math: the numbers are too high for me.
Anyway, was out riding my 250 the other day, and got to thinking about how things have changed over the years.
For example:
"getting air" used to refer to how far and how high I could jump my bike. Now it means riding around with my mouth open, lungs sucking like a 6 horse shop vac, trying to breath.
"tearing it up" used to refer to how much damage I could do to the forest floor in a day. Not it only refers to muscle, tendon and ligament damage.
"nailing it" used to mean powering on the power. Now it's what I do to trees and riding partners.
"drifting" used to refer to sliding around curves with one foot out. Now it's what my mind does just before I crash.
"hammering it" used to mean powering the coals to it. Now it's what I do to bike parts to straighten out the damage I did on the previous ride.
Adding a larger tank used to meaning carrying more fuel so I could ride longer. Now it refers to the size of the oxygen bottle waiting at my truck.
"load up" used to mean throwing my gear and bike in the back of my truck. Now it's what I hear from the EMTs just before I leave for the ER.
"blowing a seal" used to be the result of jumping long and hard, resulting in fork oil spewing everywhere. Now it involves a sphincter muscle - 'nuff said.

Getting old sucks.

Re: I was thinking about how things change

Well said my friend, well said! I decided to not ride again until they fix me and I get through some re-hab. I want the next ride to be pain free and not need help to get off the bike!!

What use to take 2 days to heal now takes two weeks.

Getting old is not for sissies.

Re: I was thinking about how things change

Three days to Utah for a "weekend getaway" and the start of a great trip still beats two days back to back in a Buick going nowhere near that distance.
