Blowout at high speed

Does anyone have blowout experience? I always wondered what it would be like, and now, especially with the front tire. Back in 2005 I rode my RT out to Missouri from Albuquerque to look at a '37 Ford (which I eventually bought) and after leaving the Ford I was getting out to I-40 and noticed something different with the bike. I stopped, walked around and looked all over but could see nothing. (Later, did I feel stupid!) Oh well, I thought, probably nothing. I had started on Friday, spent the night in a motel and was returning Saturday. As a sailor, I should have known never to leave on a Friday.
I was cruising along at 90 when my rear tire blew out. I was impressed at how it remained stable as I came to a stop, yet was monsterously difficult to move, even under power, at a crawl. Loading it on the flatbed ramp had to be done with the winch and cable, with me fighting it all the way. The tow truck took me to the next town, Joplin, but after 4 in the afternoon nothing was open. Somebody told the tow truck driver of a small , funky motorcycle shop that might be open, and so we went there. Not open, but a knock roused them. They had no tires in stock, but with a call found someone with a tire that would work, maybe. Nice guys, to be sure. They got the tire after a 2 hour wait and proceeded to learn how to replace a BMW RT tire, after hours... a very new experience for them. I was on my way and made it back to Albuquerque late that night. I have always found that if you are in a tight spot and broken down, someone will always help, and go above and beyond the call. I guess that is why I have never been afraid to take off on another adventure and see what happens...Oh, I restored the 1937 Ford Humpback to original. It was identical to the car I was brought back from the hospital in, in 1949. Sadly, I sold it. But, I regret selling the Velocette a lot more...
