Long Way Around/Down

I have the DVD's, but just discovered that "The Long Way Around" and "The Long Way Down" are on Netflix now. Two documentaries about Ewan Mcgregor and Charlie Boorman riding BMW GSs on two long journeys... the first around the world, and the second from Scotland to Capetown. A must see if you haven't seen it yet. Cheers!

Re: Long Way Around/Down

Turns out that the Netflix versions are the long ones and the DVD's are the short ones. They edited a lot of silly stuff out of the full versions for the DVDs (like Charlie lighting farts), and they are actually better shortened. In 'round' they even mention deer whistles and decide no.

Re: Long Way Around/Down

They've had both series on the home delivery DVD for some time (it's how we watched them).

I've been looking for them from time to time with no success on streaming Netflix. And thanks to this post went back and found them!

My wife roared in laughter about Claudio demonstrating how cold the water was when they were skinny dipping in the river somewhere in Russia.

Re: Long Way Around/Down

What impressed me about the trips is how fear of the unknown overtook them during preparation and made them very tentative. Good for them that they pressed on! I thought that it was humorous that their advisors on Russia were two cute young women who probably had never sat astride a bike before, probably had never been 10 miles beyond the edge of Moscow, professing doom for the trip ahead. The reality was of friendly people all along the way. I have had similar experiences about Mexico... people telling me that it is so dangerous. But the opposite is true and my experiences have been wonderful. Now, Cristobal Colon in Panama is a different matter!

Re: Long Way Around/Down

What also impressed me was the damage that was done to the Honda car that rear-ended Ewan on the R1150GS in Canada! The bumper came off and the front was pushed in. Ewan didn't go down and road it away with a dent in the Touratech side case.

Thanks again for posting this, I can't stop watching!! I've finished the Long way around and have started the Long way down. What an adventure.

I would love to know how much it cost for them to do this trip with all of the people, equipment, and resources they had to use.

It would help to be a famous actor!!!
