Who switched from Metric Cruisers to BMW?

About a year ago now, I purchased my LT. Previously, all I rode were metric bikes. My last one was a 06 VTX1300R (the black one pic'd below). After stepping back and looking at all the mod's that I put into it (and the $$'s), I saw that I was trying to make a touring bike out of it; windshield, stereo, CB, Beetle Bags, Ultimate X seats ....... . Though a great bike it was a cruiser and no mater what I did, it wasn't going to change that fact.

A few weeks ago, I purchased my wife a mint 02 R1150RT to replace her Pearl White 08 VTX1300R.

Re: Who switched from Metric Cruisers to BMW?

I had a 2002 Honda Shadow ACE that I bought new & rode for about 3 years. Sammie called it her "Wimberley Bike" as that was about as far as she wanted to ride on it. (Wimberley is about 50 miles from Austin) I quickly sold that bike & bought a used K1200LT and we have never looked back.

2006 Suzuki C50T Boulevard. Suzuki actually listed it and the larger C90T as their "touring bikes". We rode from north Georgia to Daytona Beach ONCE. In 2008 we found our well card for 2002 K1200LT.

Re: Who switched from Metric Cruisers to BMW?

I bought a new 2000 Kawasaki Nomad 1500 back in 3/00 and put 45,000 on her till I bought my new 2003 LT in 2/04 and after 78,000 miles I just sold her.

I caught myself doing the same thing you did, I had the CB, intercom...trying to turn it into something it was never going to be, a tourier!

The LT fit the "tour" bill with all of the creature comforts a dude could ask for, and over the years I added some pretty neat stuff to it.

For now, I am w/o a bike but will have the time to ride and lust over a few scoots!

Re: Who switched from Metric Cruisers to BMW?

My first bike was a Honda 750 Magna - I quickly out grew it and joined the BMW family with a K1100LT - a few years passed and was smitten by the R1200CLC - then the market went south and I lost my dealership, so I switched back to Honda and bought a ST1300 - after three years I have seen the new BMW dealer in Louisville stabilize and about two weeks ago I was reminded of the BMW ride as well as the ergonomics of their ride.
I went fishing for the next generation of the K1100 and fell in love with a 2007 K1200GT which I am to pick up tomorrow after being serviced
Needless to say I am very excited and happy to be back amongst BMW family

Re: Who switched from Metric Cruisers to BMW?

"Switched"? No, not me. I just added the LT to the fleet.

My VT1100T doesn't have the long distance touring capability the LT has and never will, but for daytrips and most of the riding I do, it suits me just fine. I've done 600+ mile days on it and would be ready to go most anywhere on it.

The LT was added to the fleet primarily for the comfort of the passenger.....

Re: Who switched from Metric Cruisers to BMW?

Everything's metric on BMWs, too.

Given that the metric system was invented in France, perhaps metric cruiser ought just apply to Frence bikes. (What French bikes?) But maybe since Germany is right next door perhaps the R1200C is a good candidate for the title. Far east adoption of the metric system is relatively new and perhaps given all the far eastern parts now on Harleys (not to mention German-designed engines), well ... .
