Sjaak Lucassen will ride to the North Pole

Sjaak Lucassen is leaving on January 31st to ride to the North Pole.

Video link

He also produced a documentary on his earlier travels, in which he rode a Yamaha R1 all around the world. Locals he met on his journey would often help with a bit of filming here and there.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I understand the big tires, but why the huge rear sprocket? and don't tell me it's to change the gearing.

Can you see the trailer hitch just to the right of the pic? He needs to drop the gearing down to keep that inline-4 in the power band at slower speeds.

Yeah, I didn't think about having to keep the RPMs up. I checked out his website. He's planning on pulling a type of sleigh with a built-on shelter over the snow and ice, and it will double as a trailer once he gets to land masses with "roads". He figures he'll get about 12 miles per gallon. If that's the case, then I wonder if he's pulling a portable refinery behind him as well.

Yep, the Old Joe is back . . .

Personally, I think unless you have done or are actually doing a similar ride, then you're not allowed to criticize at all.
