Question Kentucky,Ohio I-75 Hwy. Conditions

I'm planning on riding to Michigan tomorrow & am wondering if any of you know if they have been able to keep I-75 clear. I'm leaving at 5:00 am & will stop in Knoxville to call a few State Police Post along I-75 north in KY & OH. I just spoke to my brother in Ann Arbor MI & the roads are clear enough for riding there.

Tomorrow I'll be a big fan of salted roads.

Re: Kentucky,Ohio I-75 Hwy. Conditions

I live near AA. The roads are generally clear, but with temps now below freezing there are definitely slick spots, especially when you get on the secondary roads. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny with a high of 35.

Re: Kentucky,Ohio I-75 Hwy. Conditions

Dave, you know where we live SE of Columbus. We've had blizzard conditions all night and throughout today, with intermittent whiteout conditions. I don't know the actual snowfall amount we've had but the drifts are pretty impressive for this early in the season.

That said, I can't speak to what I-75 to our west looks like but if it's like the roads in our area it could be... "interesting".

If you get in a jam or need something, call; we'll help as best we can.

We did, actually. The accumulation and drifting was much more significant here; apparently a localized band or something.

We drove to Pittsburgh and back today; interstates were all fine, but some icy spots on secondary roads.

Good to hear he made it.

I hear you. Unfortunately no embellishment. I should have taken a video clip of the blizzard outside my home office window.

Here's hoping for a warm-up.

Re: Kentucky,Ohio I-75 Hwy. Conditions

After a 13 hour ride (750 miles ) I got to Ann Arbor MI. I only had two icy road areas on the way. I-40 east & I-75 north of Knoxville TN had some ice patches in the shade. I had high winds before Ashville NC that I had to lower my speed to 45mph to stay in one lane.

I had dinner with some of my former high school classmates in Ann Arbor & left for Pinckney to stay at my sisters at 8:30. Riding the back roads in the dark with snow & ice patches for just over 1 hour was the worst part of the ride.

Sadly they main reason I'm here is to say goodby to a buddy I've known since 1959 who was sent home from the hospital friday with cancer & only given a short time to live.

Dave glad to read you made it there safely. It is not surprising that you made there to say good-bye to your friend. That just speaks of your friendship not only to him but to all of us. Have a safe trip back. I hope to see you and the others on Saturday. Later

Dave, if you are still up north, your bike probably needs skis and snow tires if you are riding back to NC in the next few days!

Be carefull and Merry Christmas.

I got home at 11:00 last night. I had to wait until afternoon for the secondary roads to clear from the overnight snowfall to head home.

Packing up things in the garage today (were moving this spring) I noticed a Olympia jacket liner. Even though I was warm riding to Michigan & back I could have been warmer. It turns out I just had my rain liner inside of my jacket. I'll be plenty warm the rest of the winter now for sure.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Dave, That sounds like a hairy trip. I'm glad that you made it safely and got to see your friend. Buddies that go back that far are rare.

I picked up a use heated vest the other day and never knew how comfortable that they could be. I might just have to trade it in on a heated jacket liner if it get any colder down here! Never knew what I was missing...

Speaking of heated Ken this was my first ride with heated anything. I had heated gloves & socks. It was over 1400 miles at an average temp of about 28 degrees & I never had a cool body part (when I was hooked up) ever. I'm still getting used to hooking up the connection.

After one fuel stop with the temps still in the mid 20s my hands were still cold a half hour later I had forgot to hook up the 12v connection.

One of the best things about heated gear I noticed is that after a fuel stop your hands are warm within a few minutes. Even with my best snowmobile mitts it takes a hour for my hands to get warm after a fuel stop.
