The deer are moving!

Generally black beauty would be put away for the winter this time of year. I haven't put her in storage because we are experiencing unusually high temps for this time of year. I went for a ride last sunday and was planning on riding to work that evening (temps in the 50's low in the upper 30's and dry).

Instead of riding, my shift partner wanted to carpool, (not going to carpool on the bike!!) so I picked him up in my truck. An 8pt buck ran right out in front of me on the way to work. I locked up the brakes but couldn't avoid the deer. He bounced off the front bumper (going about 40 when I hit the deer) then got up and ran off, didn't even seem hurt.

I am so glad I didn't ride the bike! It could have been ugly.

Re: The deer are moving!

Dang, Dave. Glad you got outta that one! I hit a small deer in Aug. 2007 in my '98 4Runner. Messed up the bumper, but not the deer. It was gone by the time I turned around to check it out. Had it only been hurt, I was going to throttle it! If I see deer or other critters beside the road, I lay down on the horn. In your case and mine, there wasn't time for that. It only works if they're standing still or just walking. Stupid forest rats!

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Glad you're safe David and good call on taking the cage instead. A timely decision indeed.

Re: The deer are moving!

Like Meese said, they're always running and my attention always is on catching unusual movements. Not that timing will always work in my favor. Glad to hear that it mostly worked out for you, Dave. So you've been bumper hunting, huh?
I'm still riding. The weather's been great!

Have fun,
Jer
