We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

Last week my lovely wife and I departed on our first true motorcycle vacation where we would be on the road every day for a week and not just using the Magic Carpet as "a way to get there".

We took a nice route up to mile marker zero on the Blue Ridge Parkway and rode back south to mile marker 469 and then on to home. We intentionally planned our time on the Parkway to be about 5 days so we could enjoy it and sightsee. No matter what the weather, the BRP offfers amazing vistas. We had been on portions of the BRP in the past but this was our first "end to end" trip in a single journey. The K1200LT ran like the finely enginnered motorcycle it was meant to be.

It was a blast and instead of re-summarizing here we have a post in our blog about it by clicking here. Read and enjoy if you'd like.

I also did a slide show that was meant for DVD but I also uploaded a copy to You Tube and you can look if you're really bored by clicking here.

There's places we want to go back to now. We also wanted to share what we did!

Thoroughly enjoyed the slideshow, Chris. Good selection of background music too! Thanks for sharing - especially for those of us who haven't had the pleasure of riding the BRP - a bucket list item for me if I ever get to GA to visit my bro.

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

Thanks Dick! It's been on my bucket list too. The music was from a collection of songs called "The Blue Ridge Parkway" to boot! The nature sounds are from the parkway. My wife shot many of the pictures from the back while we were moving down the road. Beleive it or not it was my first attempt at a Windows Movie Maker too.

Me and my brother done it in June. He just retired and the BRP was on his bucket list. He did it on a 90 Fatboy. He wore both tires off of it staying up with the best motorcycle in the world. We did south to north.

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

Just finished enjoying that excellent slide show!! You nailed the music; the photos and music really put me in the mood to go ride that road. It's on my list. I've done a very small section of the BRP itself, but I did ride Skyline Drive 2 weeks ago.

Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments! We intend on doing it again in portions but we wanted to do it all in one trip at least once.

Great slide show and loved the music. Makes me want to leave Cincinnati and hit the road but circumstances will not allow it at this time. Beautiful there in the fall. Glad you took the time to share with us.

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

Good job with the video ... very nice.

I've ridden the BLP all the way (twice). It's bucket list thang, but let's just say I'me OK if I don't ever ride it again. The bottom 50 miles are OK, but there sure are a lot better riding roads...

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

My wife and I rode on it from Ashville, NC south to rt 19 in early September, probably only about 50 miles, but it was one of the most deeply enjoyable rides I've ever had on a motorcycle anywhere. Absolutely beautiful.

Just came across this thread while perusing another....my wife & I are "End-to-Enders" as well - several times over. If you're not aware of it, 2 different "organizations" offer certificates and/or stickers to commemorate this accomplishment - if interested and if you're not able to locate the info on the web, please give me a shout!

One of them is the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. If you fill out the form and send it back, you get a nice certificate, stickers and pins.

Great slideshow, Chris. I missed this thread the first time around. Where did you get the collection of songs? I did a web search, but didn't get a return that I thought would be it.

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

I enjoyed the slide show and looking at the best color LT made on the BRP. We made the trip in 2010 but because of time, had to get off and burn up some highway for almost 200 miles somewhere in the middle and then we got back on and made the last part. We hoped to do it again but the hurricane that dumped 11" of rain had it shut down on some areas. Oh well. There is always another time.

Thanks for the kind comments from everyone. The music was from a CD we purchased at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. It's put out by the National Park Service and is called "The Blue Ridge Mountains". It combines the music along with sounds recorded in the mountains. I thought it to be appropriate.

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

Thanks for the info on the CD, Chris. Even living as close to the BuRP as I do, I haven't been on that much of it. Now you've given me another reason to make a road trip. Like I needed one!

Re: We're Blue Ridg Parkway "End-to-Enders"!

A really nice video of the BRP that sure made me homesick. I grew up around the area and did all my early riding there on a Honda 350 and Honda 450. At the time I just took it for granted and didn't know how good I had it.

It was fun to relive the rides through your pictures and on the best color bike too! Might have to get my K1600 painted.....
