BMW racing

Anybody out there who watches the Superbike, Sportbike, MotoGP etc racing, have any thoughts as to why BMW doesn't place any better than it does? Is it money, technology, riders,....?
Just sort'a seems like they should do a little better than they are.

Re: BMW racing

From what I understand, they have a car guy running there Bike racing program. That he doesn't understand bikes & cars are different. They are also using only there own engine management / traction control system /etc... & most ever one else uses the same after market set up . The BMW is good for a few laps, then there tires start going off... But they are getting a little better, Leon Haslan finished forth, only 7.116 seconds back on the first race today at Silverstone, & 11.496 in the second.

Re: BMW racing

I figure they are doing pretty well, the rr has only been on the circuit for a year or so and they don't exactly have the best of the best riders. Of course I am not as familiar with the World SBK as AMA and they don't have a MOTO GP team for the trickle down effect of information and parts. It's just an observation.

Re: BMW racing

They aren't doing bad for a slightly underfunded infant factory effort. Remember, the competition they are up against have been racing bikes for DECADES. Success doesn't come overnight in these things.

Larry Pegram moved back to the BMW system before the Laguna Seca round. Stopped at San Jose BMW and the helped rework things and get him set up. They were even there at the track helping him tune the system.
