Yep, they're STILL out there.
Just picked up a 1972 (Mars orange) Honda Trail 90 with 207 miles for pocket change.
The story: It was bought by his dad brand spanking new along with a Trail 70
for mom. Mom crashed shortly after she started riding and dad parked the 90
permanently, never to be ridden again. Dad passed away a few years back... and
it's just been sitting there - FOR FORTY YEARS!
207 miles - yeah, RIGHT!
OK, I'm an idiot, I'll go look at it....
I looked at the amount of gunk inside the fenders (none) foot peg rubber wear
(none) grit/damage under the skid plate (none) rear sprocket wear (none)and the most
incredible thing: the paint was NOT faded and still glossy. No pitting on the
wheel rims, no chain lube on the inside of the chain guard. TONS of compression,
I'm not going to even bother measuring it. Oh, yeah, there's also ALL the funky
factory stickers Honda pasted on just about every surface - there must be at
least half a dozen.
Someone, please pinch me and wake me up.
Now in the garage getting some cosmetic detailing and replacement of a few
missing things like a rear reflector and down tube cover. I'm going to do a
complete mechanical check and carb rebuild. Luckily Honda still has OEM
Then, I've got to finish breaking it in since Honda says 600 miles before firewall foreward.
