Re: Motorcyclist almost gets run off the road
I'm just going to have to rat myself out here. Last year my son and I were riding back roads on our Harleys. Leaving a very small town we got behind a huge toy hauler being towed by a pickup. Up ahead I can see for probably 1/2 - 3/4 a mile, all sweeping curves, and all double yellow lines.
I'm thinking like byke33, "why waste all them there kewl curves?". So out I go, and just opened it up. I'm watching my mirrors for Brian, and he's not coming. I'm thinking, what a wuss. About 3 miles later I see a pickup coming really fast, although I'm only running about 60-65 out on the flats. Straight line speed doesn't interest me much, just ripping through fast curves.
I'm watching this guy coming, then notice the red and blues flashing in his grill. Turns out it's a state game trooper, the one that pulled onto the hwy behind Brian and I. Yeah, the one Brian saw and I didn't.
I'm already stopped, helmet off, license in hand when he finally gets to me. He asked me if I knew why he stopped me. Felt like telling him it was because I chose not to outrun his ass, but instead I told him the truth (the other truth). I told him I knew it was double yellow, but that I could see, it was safe, and that I just didn't want to waste all those curves.
He let me off with a warning.
