used scooter

I have a close friend that lost his left leg just above the knee in Vietnam. He is finding it too much now to ride a full motorcycle and we are going to look at a used scooter today. I don't know the size or maker at this time. Any ideas about what to look for?

Re: used scooter

There are a number of big bore scooters on the market:

Honda Silverwing
Suzuki Burgman
Piaggio MP3

Just to name a few. They all ride acceptable.

Re: used scooter

You could also include the Honda Helix on your shopping list. Honda quit marketing it in the U.S. in 2007, but you can frequently find nice used models for sale. It has a 250cc motor and is known for it's comfortable riding position.

Life happens...you control your reaction.

2018 Honda CRF250L Rally (fun in the woods)
2015 R1200 RT (holy cow…what a bike)
2007 K1200 LT (sold)
2005 DR 650 (sold)
2002 Harley Ultra (sold)
1999 Harley Road King (sold)
1996 K1100 LT (sold)
1990 Honda Shadow (sold)
1978-1993 Raising Kids; Paying Mortgages
1975 Honda CB550 (sold but wish I still had)
Homemade Motor Bike (mounted a 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton on my bicycle at age 12)

+1 on the MP3. I have a friend who has both legs, fortunately, but absolutely loves his Piaggio. No worries about putting either foot down at stops, the scoot just stays upright; leans in the twisties just like a two-wheeler; no shifting or braking by foot levers (IIRC); keeps right up with all the other bikers that my friend rides with, including me and ole Toad. His is the 500cc model, and I think they make an even larger displacement engine now. Definitely worth a look by your friend.

My wife has the 250cc MP3. I ride it and it is a good fun ride. lots of power. Cruises at 120kph on the hiway no problem.
