I saw these motorcycles in Victorville, CA last Saturday. They had been ridden all the way from the East Coast, and were one day from reaching their final destination: Santa Monica, CA.
A friend and I rode from LA to the top of Mt. Wilson and walked around the observatory, seeing the 100-inch telescope, museum, and terrific views of the Los Angeles Basin, the islands off the California coast, and the mountains (including the fire-ravaged areas nearby). From there, we rode 50 miles of twisties over the Angeles Crest Highway to Harley-Davidson of Victorville, where the Motorcycle Cannonball riders arrived one by one in the late afternoon. It was VERY hot in Victorville, but well worth it.
We met many great people, and heard many great lines, including the following: "If they don't leak oil, then they've run out." and "They ain't leakin' oil, they're markin' their territory."

Note: For those riding up from LA, check the route carefully. We had to take a long detour to get there, due to construction on the La Canada side of the Angeles Crest Highway (at least in Fall, 2010). See the maps and info on the Mt. Wilson website for the proper route.
