Question Painting helmet Magnesium Metallic (957)

I am thinking of painting my helmet to 08 LT's trim color which is Magnesium. (I think it is Magnesium Metallic color code:957)

Color Rite has the Aerosol Can for $33.95 plus shipping.

http://www.colorrite.com/product/bmw...allic-2204.cfm

Is it the right paint code? It is listed under 08 R1200 GS !

Are there any alternatives to colorrite.com as a source?

Thanks in advance,

Matt,
Not to be a killjoy here, but you might want to check your helmet's owner's manual before applying paint. The manuals for the Arai and Shoei I have advise against painting (stickers too, IIRC) due to the paint attacking the shell, weakening it, and causing it not to protect your head if you should happen to need it. I've decided I'm not going to need it, but not adding anything just in case.

the reason for that is that the propellants in most paints will literally melt the evs "foam" in helmets. If you are VERY careful about masking off the helmet so as not to get any INSIDE the helmet, not a problem, though it probably will void your warranty.

Re: Painting helmet Magnesium Metallic (957)

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Shall I try to match the color at Auto paint stores or shall I go with colorrite paint which is specified for 08 1200GS?

Re: Painting helmet Magnesium Metallic (957)

Matt... I can confirm that the BMW paint code is #957 for Magnesium Metallic. I was able to buy a touch up bottle from BMW before they stopped selling it. (FWIW -- The BMW part number for the touch up paint is: 51 91 7 682 564. The BMW "Paint Set" contains two 12ml bottles: 957 color and clear coat).

Not having used the Colorite product myself, I'm not in the position to guarantee a perfect match. Having said that, I looked at the link to the Colorite website that you provided and that's what I would order if I needed to paint the lower trim of my '2007 LT.

I hope that helps.
