Re: We need these

I belieive in most states it's unlawfull to cover your license plate for just such a reason.

Yeah, what John said, and IL is one of them:

License Plates/Registration

Most vehicles are required to have two license plates. License plate frames should not cover any of the information on the license plates. License plates covers are not allowed.

Re: We need these

Even plain clear plastic covers are illegal in many states. My wife got a ticket in CA for clear ones sold at Pep Boys. I went back to Pep Boys and asked why they sold them if they were illegal, they had no idea.

She was given the ticket parked where she worked, by a city policeman on a bicycle! We argued it, but had to pay it.

Re: We need these

Those are pretty pricey me thinks. The ticket if you got busted would probably be in that price range.

Re: We need these

I want want of these to fight back against the blatant rip-off from speed cameras in construction zones and red light revenue cameras. The man plays dirty..I will too.

The toll roads in Illinois at least were supposed to be paid for and now free by law, 20yrs ago. My only issue is I need too many of them for all the bikes and cars so it would be a little costly.

Many of us use radar detectors so I don't see the problem with this nifty little gadget.

I see lots of cars with vanity plates with a clear cover so I don't think they would draw too much attention.

Re: We need these

I've seen similar available in the UK, even a plate which folds in half to reveal a nice message to the camera operators.

Now here's a thought, speed cameras in the UK flash as they take a picture, what would be the outcome if that first flash started a few strobe lights on the back of the bike flashing for maybe a second, would they blind the camera and stop it from getting the 2nd shot needed to calculate your speed?
