zumoforums has a lot of info, tips, and files. I'd suggest visiting that site. Garm sells MAD Maps digital routes that are, in my view, well worth the $11.99 price. If you're familiar with the hard copy versions of MAD Maps you'll know what I mean. They're very good.

+ 1 on Zumo Forums

Thanks for the tip on MAD Maps didn't know bout that

Google maps with Street View works well to find roads worth traveling. Some backroads
can be dirt and the Zumo don't no the difference!

If you don't have Map Source with the Zumo you can route on the Zumo itself by entering your destination then alter the route by adding via points. Better check the order so you don't end up backtracking.

Download routes from Mapsource to the SD card then import to the 550 memory.
I can only do one at a time - may be missing something there ~

Try this site for good riding roads.

Re: How do I get the most out of my Garmin Zumo 550?

All of the above are great suggestions.

I load routes the old-fashioned way - I enter them using Garmin's free RoadTrip software on my Mac and then download them to the Garmin GPS. (If you have a Windows computer, you use MapSource instead of RoadTrip.) It is okay to get out a map (or Google Maps) and plan your own route.

I learn about good routes from friends, magazines, the web, and other sources, which includes group rides organized by local dealers, local BMW clubs, and my friends in the Iron Butt Association (http://www.ironbutt.com/).

Here in the west, there is a free magazine called Friction Zone that offers nice local rides and maps. You can pick up issues at most motorcycle shops and dealers in our area. In addition to the monthly magazine, they also offer their trip articles (and maps) in CD form - see their subscription page. http://www.friction-zone.com/
