Thumbs up Excellent product support from Rick Mayer

I ordered a Rick Mayer saddle for my 2008 K1200GT not long after I bought it. I told Rick that I needed to sit closer to the tank than on the stock seat because I thought it would give me a more upright position. WRONG! I received the saddle about 16 months ago and really did not ride more than 300 miles at a time until I recently made my 10 day, 5800 mile trip to California. I had notice the seat was uncomfortable after 150-200 miles, but not terribly so. I thought it just needed breaking in.

On my CA trip I did 780 miles the first day and 680 the second day. By that time I was in misery. I was having chaffing of my thighs and my right leg was cramping every 15-20 minutes. I found myself squirming all over the saddle trying to find somewhere comfortable. When I got to Monterey, I called Rick several times, but no answer. I left a message hoping that I could ride up to Redding and get him to fix it. He had been in South Dakota on a trip and call when he returned, but too late. He told me that I could send it back to him and he would make adjustments. He only asked that I pay the shipping both ways. I took more pictures of me on the bike and asked him to do whatever he thought necessary to make me comfortable.

I sent the saddle as soon as I got home. He received it in 7 days, rebuilt it in 5 days and I had it back 6 days after that. I think he made a completely new saddle, as the leather looked brand new without wrinkles. Man, what a difference. I'm sitting back in the saddle with my weight evenly spread across my buttocks and no more cramping in my right leg. I cannot wait to get another extended trip.

Rick stands behind his saddles and will do anything necessary to make is customers comfortable. This is my second Rick Mayer saddle (had one on the LT) and I will certainly continue to purchase new saddles from him. I highly recommend Rick Mayer Cycles to anyone looking for a custom saddle.

I did another SS1000 (actually 1,107) over the weekend on my Rick Mayer saddle and love it. My first SS1000 was on the OEM - I earned that one!

I did my SS2500 Gold on my 99 stock seat, it was a little uncomfortable but had no problem with 22hour 37min in the saddle.

Garry, you're a better man than I! I was in pain after a couple hours, and then sheer agony with the OEM at about 800 miles with the OEM seat on my first SS1000.
