Sept trip from Iowa to Yellowstone Natnl park

Thinking of taking my LT two up from Iowa to Yellowstone in September. Just wondering what I can expect for weather at that time of year in that higher elevation area of Wyoming. I've taken long trips before, just wondering about the weather.

Chief Joseph Trail and Beartooth Highway are "must rides".

Expect cool mornings with possible frost. Afternoons can still be nice. After Labor day traffic is lighter especially during the week. If you want to camp some campgrounds will close right after Labor day.

We had 2 inches of snow on top of the freezing rain. Was all clear by 2pm. This was the first part of August, 1996. 2 days later it was 85. Don't forget your winter riding gear. Long underwear is in stock all year at Jackson Hole. There is plenty to see in the area. Now is a good time to start checking out where you want to go. 2 weeks would give you enough time to see most of it.

It's not where we go. It's that we go.

If you have a few extra days, you must stay at Flat Creek Ranch, a totally unique mountain paradise outside Jackson. Fabulous food, scenery and trout fishing. Very special to say the least.

I would guess there may be snow on Beartooth pass by September, but definitely still passable. Watch the forecast, though. It's easy to be caught in a blizzard up there. Ask me how I know!

x2..........So far spring has just showed up here in the Upper Green River Basin........and after several days of rain, with a stiff breeze blowing, it feels like Fall today..........could be another snow on the 4th of July sort of season.............Indian Summer can be really awesome however and if you dress right and have a little patience Sept. can be well worth the trip............you'll enjoy it...........that's why we are called 'enthusiast' .............right............

Just left there. Beautiful. Expect construction delays in parts of Yellowstone and maybe Towgotee Pass (26 between Dubois and Moran).
