Bushtec trailer owners I need some help

I got me a little pre-dick-a-ment,

I'm up in Michigan for my fathers memorial service and I cannot get into my trailer.
I have an 04 Bushtec Genesis, the trailer lock is not locked,
as a matter of fact the keys and most of my gear are inside of it,
but it will not open,

I'm guessing some little pin or rivit fell out of the lock mechanism
and I cannot unlatch the trailer lid.

So...... before I take a "sawsall" to it I have a request.

could one of y'all please take a picture of the latch and lock mechanism
so maybe I can figure out how to "jimmy" it open without destroying the trailer.

Han's
I got no Bushtec but just a thought.
Maybe give Bushtec a holler, they may have a fix.

Good luck

Hans just a thought.
The latching lug that catches the lid to the body is about 6mm long. Try pushing the lid forward really hard at the locking point. It may just clear enough to open.
I removed my Quantum lock very early on and reassembled it with locktite. Also slightly bent the metal bar to engage the lug in the lock more. It has been fine since.
Sorry I can't take a pic. Separated by 1 earth diameter.

Re: Bushtec trailer owners I need some help

I,ve found that the trailer liner at the lock was interfering with opening.

not easy to get to, but worth a shot. (a coat hanger thing)

Re: Bushtec trailer owners I need some help

Another thought,

I have a time out trailer and the lock would not open after I bought it, so I took out the tail light and was able to get my hand in just enough to push the lock and got it to open.

The lock was not properly tightened at the factory and I repaired it , no problems since!

Good luck

Re: Bushtec trailer owners I need some help

Hans

When I had trouble getting into my 2004 Quantum
It was the latch pin getting hung up on the carpeting trim above the locking mechanism.
I opened it by pulling the carpeting away (toward the rear) so the latch pin could clear.
Normal opening: Push down on the corner, pull latch to rear to open.
Lift lid up enough to get your fingers in to pull carpet trim to the rear.
Clear the latch pin and lift up lid.

The folks at the factory trimmed the carpet around the opening
and stiffened the lock mechanism bracket.

I sent an e-mail to Andrew Preston at Bushtec asking for help.
Also sent the e-mail to the Bushtec information drop.

Re: Bushtec trailer owners I need some help

The lid on the Quantum and Genesis are different from the Turbo.
Ours has a "U" locking mechanism that rotates down to the port side when locked.
The pin on the latch faces to the rear.

Re: Bushtec trailer owners I need some help

Thanks for the help guys, I knew I could count on y'all to help me get through this "crisis".

The lock I have is the one in the last picture provided by LT_Pilot,
the lug is the same on all of them,

I was able to pry the box open with a scrap piece of baseboard in my brothers garage
(not many tools here)
I wedged the wood under the lid where the latch is and pushed up and forward at the same time
and she "popped" open with minimal scratches on the paint.

I wouldn't have tried that without the pictures,
because I'm enough of a "bulldozer" to break that lid in half

my problem turned out to be the finger latch itself,
it's just a piece of plastic and it split lengthwise where the pin goes through it,
not a real good design but replacement seems like the only option I have.

So many thanks friends, it was quite an embarrassing and inconvenient situation!
