Thumbs up Go Big or Go Home!

Comment from an article from Asphalt & Rubber
Image change is tough but it can be done.

Look at the impact BMW is already having with its S1000. Yes, it was not their first attempt to break out of the old guy image but none of the priors tried hard enough. BMW faithful hated the idea of it and most sport guys never took it seriously, until tests started showing up claiming it smoked all the Jap 1000s Ė now a lot of sport bike guys are interested in it and the BMW guys donít seem to mind it so much either.

But the S1000 had to succeed on the merits of its ability to begin earning any of that respect. It canít be a half-hearted mostly cosmetic revamp of a standard model like the XR 1200 is of the Sportster (especially if you intend to turn around and charge several thousand more for it than the standard virtually identical Sportster like HD did).

Go big or go home.

Thanks for the link to the article. I agree that BMW is getting it right with the S1000RR and agree that it is in stark contrast to the HD marketing dinosaur.

Here's hoping BMW "gets it right" just as much with a new top-end touring bike.

Re: Go Big or Go Home!

The bike sure seems to be universally praised as a new top dog. Just wondering...how are the sales going?

Only if ANOTHER armored car drops a bag of cash in front of my office!

I'm just thinking ahead, of new bikes - some that exist, others yet to be... we'd all love to see BMW hit a freakin' grand slam with the new LT or whatever it's called.

Quite well. IIRC, sales of that bike gave BMW a 40%+ boost in sales in Feb and March. They are selling well, but most of what has gone out the door so far are the result of pre-sales. I don't think there are more than a small handfull in inventory and those are bikes that were ordered and the customer backed out.
