Long Term Storage

I come from an area that I do not winterize my bikes. I am lucky enough to ride them. I have two of my own and my son has one. An 03 1200XLC Harley. My situation is this. He just graduated from Cal Maritime Academy and is leaving for the east coast on Saturday April 3. His bike will be stored for about 9 months before he will make it home. I have read about disconnecting the battery or leaving it on a good float charger. I have read about removing all the fuel and running the float bowl dry. What about Fogging? I have read some but never did it. Any help on long term storage would be appreciated.

Is it being stored where you can get to it easily? If so just put a battery tender on it & ride it for 100 miles or so every few weeks.

Re: Long Term Storage

I used to store my bike when I went on 11, 10, and 9 month cruises. I drove it to a hired garage in the San Joaquin Valley. Ran the fuel out of the bowls and just disconnected the battery and pulled the plugs giving a shot of motor oil in the cylinders and then kicking the engine over to coat the cylinder walls. Disconnected the fuel line from the petcock. She started up after hooking everything up after each deployment. But then it was 76 Suzuki GT-750.
