I Forgot To Cinch My Helmet Again

For the second time since I've had this bike I forget to cinch my helmet. I just passed 50,000 miles since I got the bike today & was headed to a new hardware store after work to check out there metric fasteners. I was thinking about some of the dumb things I've done riding since I got the bike & not cinching my helmet on the way to the dealer last year popped into my head. I checked my chin strap & it wasn't hooked.

Both times I was interrupted at work while putting on my helmet. My bike sits where I can see it most of the day while I work (ok while I play all day at work). Anyway I think in my hurry to leave work after looking at my bike all day I'm rushing to much. Twice in one year is dumb on my part.

Any else have this problem?.

Re: I Forgot To Cinch My Helmet Again

Well, I do have a neighbor that is one of the crowd that rides the noisy V-Twin, and only wears a helmet because CA law requires it. He does proudly leave his little beanie helmet unstrapped most of the time on purpose, to show how cool he is!

Yep, ride 7 days a week year around. I've forgot to fasten my chin strap twice in the last few months. Never done it before.

Dave, Dave, Dave stop screwing off at work. lol. All kidding aside it's not unusual that seemingly small tasks we've repeated over and over sometimes get missed as we.........ah,um, let's see how do I say this..............become more mature and get wiser. Just slow down a bit and focus. Just part of getting wiser by the day!

Focus Grasshoper!! I have done it as well only I usually find out after the gloves are on and before I drive off. Much more detectable with a flip front helmet, kind of hard to close it with the strap loose.

At least the helmet is on, so you're covered for initial impact. After that, it's just cosmetic.

I usually strap my helmet when I wear it. However when its warm,I usually wear a ballcap and there are no straps.

I forget every now and again. I am usually reminded by the annoying flapping strap.

You must be a far better rider than most of us hacks that wear our helmets ALL of the time. Or maybe I'm just falsely assuming that your ballcap is not Snell rated.

I have forgotten before...detected the error shortly after getting down the street.

It seems to happen when I am distracted during 'set-up'.

Let's hope that Federal legislators don't get wind of this or we'll have to contend with loud buzzers and a "Helmet" dash-light on our bikes to remind us to buckle-up. Also this will come with a big ugly yellow decal on the dash, similar to the air-bag warning one!!!

Hey, Dave, did you think to look for the M3 .50 - 6 oval head or beveled screw I needed for the GPS while you were there? I'm still making do with the pan head from Lowe's, but haven't been anywhere to hunt for screws.

I haven't forgotten to secure the strap...yet.

I'll add one more to your list. It won't even crank over until cinched.

The metric selection was very little & I got there 5 minutes before they closed.

Re: I Forgot To Cinch My Helmet Again

Guess I'll have to live with the pan head or pay through the nose for an oval head from Garmin.

Re: I Forgot To Cinch My Helmet Again

I never said I was a better rider than anyone. I just don't like to wear a helmet at times. I figure we are all going to die. I've made it 50 years so far. If it comes doing something I love to do so much the better. If wearing a helmet when you ride makes you more comfortable, I'm 100% behind you.
