My new to me 1979 R80/7

A one owner bike purchased new and serviced by Iron Horse Motorcycles in Tucson, it has been in Arizona it's entire life. 21K miles. I'm the second owner as of today. Stored since 1988, after a carb cleaning and new battery it fired right up.

Frank Sinatra sums it up best:

Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plum

You came along and everything started to hum

Still it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine

http://picasaweb.google.com/MillerRo...KDdz6T3hcXKFQ#

Enjoy best by touching the slide show button and adjusting the viewing length + or -.

It was either this or a new GS800 for about 10K more. Maybe next year...

Actually, that's the reason I bought it.

I've been wanting a classic BMW for display at shows to demonstrate how well we can keep the old school OEM "look" and still dramatically increase comfort.

I've got a nice XS650 that we did this with, but it just doesn't quite have the panache a BMW does.

It is also now a bona fide capital expenditure and on going business expense when I ride or display it. I won't even TRY to deduct depreciation. I'll keep the flawless OEM vinyl seat cover in a safe place - it is worth it's weight in gold.

Hi ho, Hi ho, it's off to work I go. All my friends feel sorry for me. Boo Hoo.

That is what a motorcycle should look like. Beautiful. Do you have the bags for it?

Two hard panniers (Krauser brand ? - not too good on this stuff) with keys - they don't even have a bug splatter on them. As incredible as it seems they look like they just came out of the box.

I need to get up to speed with this vintage. Snowflake wheels, S fairing, etc. All Greek to me - but half the fun is learning to speak airhead.

All I know is I'm going to be doing a lot of lubing over the next week. Splines and steering head are first on the list. Time for some modern grease.

Nice that a Clymer manual was included.

Re: My new to me 1979 R80/7

Wow, nice bikes! Wish I had time to play in that field, maybe someday.

I'll just inhale the eye candy for now (NO, I don't see a boat)

Congrats on the buy though Ron, that thing looks brand new to me
