Riding the Canyons in S. Cal is Safer

I have decided without at doubt that riding the canyons in So Cal is way safer than riding on the surface roads on that area.
I was almost in a bad accident yesterday on Topanga Canyon Blvd, about half a mile east of entering the canyon.
A Jeep pulled out right in front of me from a side street. I was riding, not my beloved LT, but a borrowed Yamaha Virago 750, with which I have become quite familiar over the past two weeks. I was as shocked to see this car pull out in front of me as I would have been to see a space ship landing there. For the split second I had to react it seemed utterly incomprehensible that someone could make this huge mistake with MY life.
My instincts informed me immediately that there was no way in hell I could stop in time to avoid a collision. So, I did what I have practiced repeatedly for years, I swerved sharply to the left then back to the right and passed only about a foot away from his front bumper and escaped unscathed.
It all happened so fast there was virtually no time to think, just react.
I imagine the cager simply did not see me, though he or she might have been preoccupied with adjusting hisradio or talking on the cell phone. All things we are all guilty of.
Be careful out there ladies and gents, you really just never know what's going to appear in front of you from out of no where.
(Fortunately, the incident did not keep me from enjoying to the hilt the ride through the canyon and on down the pch to El Segundo.)
