Agreed - from his pic he doesn't look like the type that "musta got lost". All we can do is hope for the best...

A cell phone in the "ON" position will "register" with each tower that it has contact with, even if the GPS mode is not enabled. The detective should be able to get this routine info back from AT & T in several hours. If there is no last tower info by now, I'd say his cell was "OFF."

Re: Lost rider..............

This is a little disturbing. I 'lost' my son in the same area a few years ago. I spent hours back tracking and stopping to look down the sharp drop offs, of which there are many in that area. Turned out a string of motorhomes blocked our view of each other just before an intersection, he went left and I went right. Hope this one turns out well also.

Re: Lost rider..............

yes, we've spent many hours walking areas along that road....
From Darby to Sula then over to Big hole battleground has forest right up to the road....
The rest of the search area is plains and easy view.
No luck so far....................

Re: Lost rider..............

Allan,
Its a great thing you are doing, Keep up the good work. Me and a couple of riding buddies rode the same roads you guys are searching but a day earlier then his disappearance. On that trip I lost one of my riding buddies and ended up searching all the ditches on the side of the road. The end to this was he had passed by me as I was taking my helmet off to take a picture. Scared the crap out of me and had me thinking about how to find some one that has left the road. I have been watching all the threads from each forum and did not hear anyone mention to look on the opposite side of the road ditches. Perhaps a car crossed the center line or an animal jumped in front of him and he crossed the center line and went off the road. He could have even fell asleep and wandered off that way also. Good luck with your searching and I really hope this has a good ending.

Re: Lost rider..............

I have been watching this since day one of the search, We all kinda figured with this much time elapsed the end result had little chance of being positive. I still was caught by surprise to hear the news. My sincerest condolences go out to his friends and family. A couple friends and I rode his exact route just one day before he did. Sounds like his accident must have happened around 6pm. Can't imagine why there were no witnesses. RIP Donald.

This is always a tough ending.....no matter how many times it happens before. What were the circ's around this "accident?"

Jay,
They have closed all the threads that have been following the search efforts due to respect for the family. They did say he was found by some hunters near Salmon Idaho on hwy 93. They said he was not found earlier because he traveled across 150 feet of relatively flat terrain before going down an embankment.. Therefore could not be seen by the searchers. He was wearing a helmet but no other info was offered. It was a very impressive search effort put forth by riders from all over the country. Several from our LT site as well.Following the story reminds you how great riders are.

Re: Lost rider..............

It appears that Donald failed to negotiate a turn and ran off the road. We will probably never know if there were any other factors involved. The road and surrounding landscape are incredible for riding. At least he had that before tragedy struck. RIP.

I want to know too. What cause him to loose control. Deer struck, too fast, heart attack, etc.................... This story I followed each day too.

Re: Lost rider..............

A truly sad ending. I find myself disturbed by the lack of an official search with the amount of elapsed time and evidence that something was wrong. I applaud the volunteer efforts to make up for this shortcoming. Perhaps in the future a more formal effort to allow those who couldn't be part of the search to help out could be organized. I, for one, would have gladly donated toward the cost of an air search or other needs.

Thank you, Brian, for the update. Well, when he did run off the road, at least he was in a beautiful place (Idaho) and doing what he wanted.

To answer the question about the slow pace of the search: unless the "missing" subject is deemed "critical," (serious health or mental condition, foul play suspected, etc.) the search will NOT be a priority.

John, I suppose the Idaho H/P will do a complete T/C investigation, which should be public upon completion. I guess that should provide most of the answers. A deer strike, etc, would be "recorded" by the damage/markings on the M/C.
