I had a K1100LT for almost a hundred thousand miles,
Your thoughts pretty much describe just the way I felt when I first looked at the K1200LT,
I said yuck that's a Goldwing why would anybody want one of those.
A while later I was at a BMW rally in Virginia, me and a buddy went for a test ride, I took an "oilhead" RT and he took the K12LT, after riding K bikes I wasn't impressed with the R (not knocking it, just a personal preference)
half way through our test drive my buddy asked to trade bikes, I didn't really want to but he's my friend so reluctantly I took the K1200LT for the second half of the test ride.
At first it felt heavy, big bulky, then I got it moving over ten mile per hour and what a surprise, this big old bike handled like my old Triumph, who'da thunk that something that big would ride so nice and handle so good!
Anyway I'm on my second K1200LT now and all I can say is:
Everything is not always at it appears to be "grasshopper"
The K1100LT is a nice bike but take a ride on the K1200LT and I'll bet you'll see things a little differently.
