Hey, Matt - you doin' this for the lowers?? If so, I used a Krylon rattle can to repaint ole Toad's lowers last year, and it came out a darn close match to OEM. Brian Collins up in Austin, Tejas sent me a different color in a can and it wuz also a darn close match. Check out the attachment pics.

You keep looking for the OEM stuff, and in the meantime, I'll dig out the specs on what Brian and I used.

PM sent to ya, Matt.

And btw - for anyone else interested, the Krylon number for the rattle can color to paint LT lowers (older model year LTs) is Krylon Chrome Aluminum #1404. Hard to find sometimes - I ended up ordering from some outfit in FL

Brian's can wuz labeled Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403.

Krylon web site states " Indoor use"

Did you have any issues with outdoor use? When did you paint?

Hi, Matt. Painted ole Toad's lowers early last year. Only problem is the chin spoiler getting pretty nicked with road chit. I did paint over the Krylon with a clear coat, which might have helped the frontal areas of the side lowers. I maybe shoulda installed one of those Extenda-Fenda thangies. If I repaint, I'll do that. Shoulda done it with the OEM also - one reason for the repaint wuz the beating the OEM paint took at the chin spoiler area.

Hi Dick,

I was able to find both spray paints at local ACE hardware. I think Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403 matches better. For Krylon Chrome Aluminum #1404, there is note saying that it matches with old style bumpers. I finished with automotive acyrilic clear top coat from Autozone.

Hi Dick,

I was wondering if you have ever tried Dupli-color Autospray DSFM226 Silver Metallic. Based on the cap color, it looks exremely close match to BMW White Aluminium 265. What is nice is that it is already designed for automotive use. I bought a 5oz spray can from PepBoys. But I think this brand Dupli-color is also available at Checkers Auto and Autozone.

Hi, Matt - nope, never tried that one.

That Krylon 1404 cap is definitely bright Chrome, butt the paint itself isn't near that. I sprayed an extra rightside lower that I had - matched it up against the rest of ole Toad's lowers and couldn't hardly tell the difference. Fact, when I painted those parts, I did a half panel on the front spoiler, ran out of the first can, and had to finish with another can - painted the whole thang again, cuz wuzn't sure painted/non-painted.

Based on your findings, and Brian Collier's finding, and my finding (actually lifted from someone on the forums, but I forget who ), there prolly are several spray paint colors that closely match the early model year LT lowers.

You finish painting yours yet?? I'll be interested in what you find and how it looks.

Re: Any source for Spray Paint of BMW White Aluminium 265?

Hi again Dick,

Yes, you were right the best match is Krylon 1404 Chrome Aluminium after painting and applying clear top coat. I used all three paints:

1. Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403: I painted my 03 LT's new style front fender lowers with Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403. The cap color looked very similar but after painting and applying the clear coat the color turned more whitish. NOT RECOMMENDED. (Also this paint's label clearly states that it is for indoor use only. I will repaint with 1404 later.

2. Dupli-color Autospray DSFM226: I painted my 04LTs new style front fender lowers with Dupli-color Autospray DSFM226 Silver Metallic. The cap color matches fine. This is an automotive paint available at Autozone, etc. After painting and applying clear coat the color was still stable. This is RECOMMENDED. 5oz Spray. (I do not need to repaint this)

3. Krylon Chrome Aluminum #1404: I painted air intake and air exaust parts of my HJC AC-3 Carbon helmet to match with LT's trim color (04 and earlier) with Dick's favorite Krylon Chrome Aluminum #1404. Applied Dupli-color clear coat afterwards. This paint and DSFM226 were very close in matching the OEM color. I think Krylon Chrome Aluminum #1404 is slightly brigther and slightly matched better. RECOMMENDED. I am planning to buy another can or two from ACE Hardware. This paint can also be used for outdoor use. There was nothing on the label which stated indoor use only. Even the label said that this would be good paint for old bumpers. (Do not let the cap color fool you.)

I do not have photos yet. I will take some photos when I have chance....
