Ken Meese

I just read on ADV Rider that some rider named Ken Meese took first place at the Spank rally in AR.

Congrat's Ken.

Had I known you were so close I might have made an effort to come over and cheer you on.

Way to go...

SPANK RALLY

Wow, I see those numbers and think that is an awful lot of spanking...but then no one deserves it more.

Re: Ken Meese

Thanks, everyone. It was a fun, but tough ride. The Spank Rally is a 24-hour endurance rally. Basically, it's a 1,000-mile scavenger hunt on motorcycles.

We started out of Hot Springs, Arkansas at 8 am Saturday and finished Sunday morning. The rain came down about 2 pm, and never stopped all night long. I got to ride some of my favorite Arkansas roads, and discover a few new ones.

After the rally, I got to visit with my 95 year-old grandma, and also spend some time with Grif working on the bike, and Channing chatting about life, family, and solving the world's problems. It's been a great trip.

I'll do a full write-up as soon as I get back home.

And yes, the bike survived, despite ingesting an entire bird through the intake snorkel. It did run a bit rough for a while though.

I figure I'll trade it in when it gets to 100K miles. I crossed 85K running the three sisters yesterday, so that shouldn't be too far away.

No better place but in a 24 hour endurance race, you miss most of it after dark.

Re: Ken Meese

Jerry, a 1000 miles in the mountains is perfect. Doing it in 24 hrs would be my problem. I like to do the "Golly, ain't that purdy? Oh, looky there, I need a picture of that! My my my, ain't this the $#!%" and that slows me down.
In fact old 71 between Ft. Smith and Fayetteville, up over the mountain is a good example.

Okay okay okay you two...I agree that you would miss a lot of the great sight seeing, however, remember that this was an endurance race, not a sight seeing trip. I too love to run the mountians and take photos, but there is a time and trip for photos and then there is a race. I would rather do both in the mountains any day.

Okay okay okay you two...I agree that you would miss a lot of the great sight seeing, however, remember that this was an endurance race, not a sight seeing trip. I too love to run the mountians and take photos, but there is a time and trip for photos and then there is a race. I would rather do both in the mountains any day.
Agreed!! I admire Ken and his accomplishments. Bottom line is Ken is truly the Man! I am (and maybe Bones too) a girly man rider, who likes to stop & smell the roses.

Ha Ha! I wear the pants around my house, and I always get the last word ...."yes Dear." Will post one in Humor if I can find it. Called "The Man Song."

We now return you to your regularly scheduled admiration of Ken Meese.

Hey now, windshields and face shields don't count. Kinda hard to keep riding if you can't see where you're going.

I'll do a ride report soon. That was easily the longest I've ridden without electronic aides in 200K miles. Gotta love those AAA maps, as they remain clear and readable even when sopping wet and covered in blurry sharpie.

The funny thing is that George (who ran the rally) has pioneered the use of pre-loaded gps files for rally riders, as now used by the IBR. You still have to do the ride, but it saves you from spending 20 minutes looking for some tiny historical marker down some dark, lonely road. But this time he decided to do it old school. Or rather, to make us do it old school.

And there's nothing wrong with sniffing flowers and taking pictures. That's just not what this particular ride was about.

As for the rest of the thread, I have no idea how we got into Bones' & Benny's pants.

Sounds like several reports that I read, describing this year's Spank rally.

Great job, Ken! Can't wait to hear about riding in Arkansas.

Congratulations Ken!!!

But I have to admit that I'm real jealous of all the riding you're getting done.

Bike #11 in Spank was a stock Sportster ridden two-up. They're from northern Washington, and did 2,000 miles in 48 hours on the way down to Arkansas. Then slept a lot. After the 1,000-mile rally, they planned on taking a leisurely 3 days to get back home. For this crowd, that is flower-sniffing . . .
