She could have "flashed" her brake lights 'til the bulb melted! Nothing would have gotten Ms Polishing's attention....

From the looks of the intersection, I would guess the speed limit is 40 or 45. To throw the rider 200 ft. Seems like impact would have been more but I'm not a forensics expert. The nail polishing is a good legal battle cry but the real issue is Drivers who cause death or injury because they violate the right of way of another (whether a motorcyclist, a pedestrian, a bicyclist, or cager) needs to have clear, strict, and equitable penalties administered. I'm sure she's distraught. She just took someone else's life because she simply wasn't paying attention to her primary responsibility which was safely operating a motor vehicle.

Very similar to what happened to one of our own, just last week. My heart goes out to these families and my prayers are for the safety of us all.

I've seen a guy get hit by a car at ~ 40...he didn't fly anywhere near that far.

My fear is she isn't going to make that same connection, The driver in Colorado either.

Re: Another reason why you flash your brake lights...

some years ago, I was at a light i Chicago and while I don't always watch my mirrors.....I was this time and I could see a small pickup coming up fast and I could just tell he was not going to stop. I put my kickstand down and swung my leg over and that is when he hit the back of my bike..(97 Goldwing). It shot me up in the air and two lanes over but I was unhurt. Bike incurred $3000 of body damage but was rideable.

The drive took off and even though we got the plate and filed a report....Chicago Police did nothing. Months later I obtained an address and phone and gave it to my insurance company. They did collect from the drivers insurance and repaid my deductible...still..the driver never even got a ticket.

Absolutely damn right. This problem needs to be fixed.

My boss is freakin' glued to her Blackberry, including when she's behind the wheel - full-on texting while attempting to drive. I have made a couple of polite suggestions about not doing that. She laughs it off: "I'm a good driver!". BS. I fully expect to see her in the role of clueless-driver-who-killed-someone-while-texting, appearing on a TV newscast near you.

The problem is the people who need to hear about those incidents either don't hear about them, don't care, or enough punishment is not taken to scare some sense into some people. They need to look at this as an opportunity to somehow wake other people up.

The scariest part is that right before doing her nails, she trimmed her beard and mustache! Imagine flying through the air 200 feet AND then having THAT standing over you?! Some fates ARE worse than death!

That's messed-up...sounds like you were lucky to not get a ticket for parking in the middle of the road.
