Black Ice Season Is Here!

Just a reminder to be cautious out there....

Sunday afternoon I went for casual country lane sojourn in and round the region near my house.. just punched in a way point.. told my GPS to avoid this road and that... and off I went. It had rained overnight and into the AM... leaves dropped... temps were cool. The sun broke out around noon.... by 3... the roads were clear, leaves gone... and skies were just too inviting... so off I went.

lots of deciduous trees and pines... everywhere ... I was in and out of shade.. having a ball... mild twisties... just jammin to some riding tunes.. and having a good time....

then it happened... I crested a hill into a shaded corner... and there it was... a wet shaded spot on an outside turn the sun never touched... I rolled off the throttle enough to ease my way around it... fortunately... THIS TIME...

But I'm reminded that late fall riding, especially late in the day riding, when the temps are in the 30-40s means valleys are right at the point where moisture (not puddles) will freeze and make the pavement slick when other areas are perfectly dry and smooth sailing....

BE VIGILANT MY BROTHERS! IT'S BLACK ICE SEASON!

I agree, be safe. Last night 2AM I was getting off work and pulled out of the lot on my bike and the whole rear end shifted funny. I checked the tires, the pressure was ok. I looked back and sure enough a wet looking spot. Not that much wet as it was frozen.

You're so right. It's been getting down into the 50's here at night lately. If we had any sort of precipitation at all, I'd be really worried.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Re: Black Ice Season Is Here!

For those of us where the leaves do fall, that's another thing to watch out for. Wet leaves in a corner, or in a braking zone, can make for some pucker moments.
And why, oh WHY, do people feel the need to blow the leaves into the street rather than raking them up?

Well in beautiful White Trash Ville, where I live, it got down down to 6 degrees F. Is that better for Southern Kommyfornia?
