Cool, good for her. But hasn't she heard of a heated jacket & grips?

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Hi Ken! Yeah you have a great suggestion. It is not clear what her background is from what little I read. Her dad posted the link on bmwmoa site asking for folks to post to her. I plan to do that. Care to join in? I bet your involvement will be appreciated.

Ken,
here is a copy of the post on the MOA site.

"Becky has begun an adventure, Kentucky to Washington on an 82 R65LS. After 3 weeks riding, sets off on her own to cross the country. It's my opinion that anyone that sets out to learn to ride a motorcycle in less than a month and then set out across country is gutsy!

Dad (Mark Renfrow)
"

this is the bike she is riding. Is the alternator strong enough to handle heated gear and as a novice rider would she even think about or know about heated gear.

My hat is off to her as I believe your's is also.

Re: Dream to ride...ride to dream...

'82 R65 alternator tops at 240 watts, I believe (if I have my ohm's law straight?) Anyway, about 120 or so to run the motor, headlight, and keep battery charged leaves 120 or so for accessories. Heated gear can use that up in a hurry. Maybe a vest, or maybe gloves, but doubt both unless they alternate on current draws. Still, one or the other better than nothing!

Wow!

I tried to post an encouaging comment on this lady's blog, but the security screen which has to be interpreted in order to do so is absolutely the most difficult to understand that I have ever seen!

No wonder there are very few comments posted. I sure couldn't make any sense of it what-so-ever. Guess my good intentions to encourage will have to go un expressed.

Oh, well. Probably not worth much, and maybe she wouldn't want it anyway.
