Any coolant that meets owner's manual specs including Super Tech which Wally World pretty much pays you to haul away.

I supported all the ohio bmw mc dealers. ya even BMW break fluid. Just trying to find out if there is something special about the coolant. Should I buy BMW gasoline too?

Re: Not an oil thread

Call me gullible but I believe there is something "Special" about their coolant,

I don't know I'm not that smart.

Some years ago when I had a problem with a bike
(under warrantee) out on the road

a BMW mechanic told me:
if you can't get BMW coolant use the red Toyota coolant,
nothing else.

Maybe someone else (smarter than me) can tell us why?

Why try something that cost $30.00 a gallon instead of one that cost $3-5.00 a gallon and meets manufacturer specs? Maybe this is an Oil Thread after all!

You may have heard a truth. I am on my 3rd Audi and I have to use a "special" type of coolant and cannot mix with a generic brand. If I want to use a generic brand I would have to flush my entire cooling system and be sure there is none left and then refill with any brand.
Also Audi only uses special (read expensive) ATF as well, such as Pentosin at $17.00/liter and I need 6 liters.
I guess some manufacturers only specially formulated fluids that rarely need changing, and as such cannot be mixed with the Walmart brand.
Good thing I can use ANY DOT4 brake fluid...

You may want to check the data sheets for Quaker State and Pennzoil Multi Vehicle ATF and others. For years, I had to buy ATF from my Mitsubishi Dealer at an inflated price in order to keep my warranty valid with SP-iii ATF. Recently, Castrol Multi Vehicle for Imports AFT has been certified to meet the specs along with several others. You may want to research Pentosin compatible AFTs on the internet and see if you get lucky.
