Fuel Mileage Drop

Have a 2005Lt with 20K. Always got 50 to 55mpg on trips riding two up, last couple times out dropped to 40 yo 45mpg. Don't notice any difference in performance or starting. Any ideas what I might check.

Re: Fuel Mileage Drop

Any other factors? Like head winds on I-80, cruising at 80 MPH, Iowa corn gas?

Air Filter dirty? Maybe more corn syrup in your gas?

Try some Seafoam in the gas, really keeps everything clean. 1 ounce per gallon

Have you changed or disconnected your battery lately?

Re: Fuel Mileage Drop

When I got the '03 LT new it was getting 47/48 mpg consistently, with low fifties in the mountains. By the time I traded it about three weeks ago, it was getting 40 mpg at 75 mph on the Interstate, and at 85 mph would drop to low to mid thirties. Had it checked several times by dealers for the problem.

Re: Fuel Mileage Drop

not sure about LT's but my RT's mileage is affected dramatically by driving above seventy five miles per hour. Stay below seventy and it gets optimum mileage apparently. Head or tail winds do make a differnce believe it or not but I'd rather ride without any wind as the big RT fairing doesn't much like wind . Can be unsetteling at times when over twenty miles per hour.

No matter where you go , there you are.

Re: Fuel Mileage Drop

I have a 02 LT and have gotten at best on superslabs 45-46mpg. On the ride out to Gillette 2 up and loaded got around 38-39. The played with mileage, but our riding partners kept saying he was getting 50-55 mpg. Theirs was an 02 LT as well. I have a Cee Baily +2 windscreen so that probably plays on my mileage, and our speed across I-90 was 80-85 all the way. What is Seafoam? I would like to try that out.

Re: Fuel Mileage Drop

Seafoam is a gas line cleaner. I use it from time to time and put it in stuff before I close it down for the winter.

Re: Fuel Mileage Drop

Funny, I just noticed the same thing in my 2000 on this last trip to Indy. Going by the computer, which I believe, it was getting only about 43 even at 62 mph. That speed used to get me 50 plus. Just had a new O2 sensor installed when the old one shorted out. Mileage was good initially, but now it seems bad. I'll check it out further under a variety of conditions, but right now it's discouraging.
