Bagger Blatherings

All the current major motorcycle mags are running comparison tests of
"Baggers" or bikes with touring bags. Not once was the LT mentioned in any of these mags. It's like it has just dropped off the earth.

Maybe because the LT has been winning every year since the 99 T came out?
OK, I just made that up... but sincerely who cares what the rags say? They seem to be heavily influenced by their advertisers so I have very little faith in the impartiality.

Re: Bagger Blatherings

Nobody pays any attention to LTs. Not even the BMWON! How often to you see an article about any LTs in that mag? Not even a picture in any of the stories. We truly love a "Bastard Child".

Re: Bagger Blatherings

This is what happens when a manufacturer guts its dealer network, arrogantly ignores owner's needs and thus sells very few bikes in the US. To damn bad we love this bike so much.

Really, I may be ready to deal with these issues because I have always ridden BMW but how do I in good conscience recommend one when available service has become so sparse?

Re: Bagger Blatherings

I was on H-D for 20 years, including the last 4 being "baggers'.

The term normally refers to H-D's large frame bikes which come with bags as OEM equipment... Electra Glides, Road Glides, Street Glides and Road Kings.

The magazine is trying to be trendy.

As for not including the LT... well I have no idea but to say the other comments are right-on. If they include Concours, and Wings why not FJR's, RT's etc... they all come with "bags".

Its marketing.

Having added nothing to this conversation let me say that IF I wanted a large Touring bike, I would not look at LT's... a new model Harley maybe, or Wing... but LT's are problematic... at least by reputation and comments on this board.

But I love my RT.

Re: Bagger Blatherings

It didn't cover the LT or the GW for a reason, these two bikes are in a class of their own. They reviewed both of them a few months ago, with the GW edging out the LT.

Re: Bagger Blatherings

The LT is made for the US market and sales are falling off. I would imagine it will go the way of the R1200C. Notice that the 2009 model is only available in black and lacks an intercom. Same color as a hearse.......

Re: Bagger Blatherings

None of my cruisers were as much fun to ride as my LT. They were less expensive to maintain and more dependable, but not as much fun. I guess it's a trade off. I have some doorags I need to get rid of...........

Re: Bagger Blatherings

I don't think of BMW's as baggers. To me a "bagger" is a cruiser with bags. The BMW's are " Sport Touring " or Luxury Touring , or whatever, but the closest thing BMW made as a bagger was the cruising model, the R 1100 C.

That is just my take on it.

Besides who gives a shit what magazines say. BMW doesn't advertise in magazines why should they care what they say. BMW Motorad is like good wine and Scotch Whisky, an acquired taste. Anyone can buy a Honda, you got to be certifiable to buy Beemers. LOL

No matter where you go , there you are.
