Seattle to Denver, best route?

Hi Gang,
I have a conference coming up in the middle of September in Denver, and I'm thinking about taking the LT. Unfortunately, I only have about 2.5 days for travel on either end of the trip, so the route will probably have to include a fair amount of interstate. Any suggestions on an interesting route? What kind of weather am I likely to run in to?

Thanks,
-Scott

Re: Seattle to Denver, best route?

I suggest I-84 for covering ground but once I got to Wyoming on I-80 I would suggest leaving the interstate to see the sights in Colorado. I like to drive along 40 in northern Colorado then drive 9 toward Dillon, CO. There are several scenic byways along the route that are which are associated with this year's Curve Cowboy Reunion like Mirror Lake which wouldn't be too far out of the way and are a nice change in scenery. My guess is you will have to ride hard for a couple of days then perhaps you can spend the half day touring the mountains north and west of Denver.

You can take 12 from Seattle to Billings - terriffic ride - then take any of the back roads SouthEast. If you take the slab, take the cage....

Re: Seattle to Denver, best route?

Suggested one-way route....1800 miles in 2.5 days, busy, but you'll have fun. A mix of slab and back roads.......

Slab it from Seattle to Coeur d'Alene
95S thru Moscow to Lewiston (they are harvesting now, its beautiful and memorable in the Palouse about now).
12E over the Lolo Pass
93/75/93S through the Bitterroot etc
slab it east on I84 to I80
East into Wyoming on I80
Get off onto the 414 to Manilla
44/141S to Vernal UT.
40E thru Steamboat Springs to Granby
Thru Rocky Mts NP to Estes Park and Denver.

Its going to be hot to very hot all the way......you need a camelback as you'll be on the bike all day making ground whenever you can.

Some of this is pretty good. Now for the return......
