Jacket and Pants

I purchased a Darien Jacket and Pants from Aerostitch and sadly had to return them. The fit was fine in the chest, the waist was good, too. As for the rest of the fit: Man would have had to take a radically different evolutionary path from the time of the Cro Mangan for these articles to fit me. I'm stocky. 5'9", 225, 30" inseam. Are there alternatives to the Aerostitch that are equal is quality? I don't want to have to layer or put in a liner to be water proof. Living in south Florida it is plenty warm and I need something that is workable in those temperatures. For the cost of the 'Stitch and alterations (almost $1000.00) I would think one could be custom made. Any suggestions for a custom build? Thanks.

Re: Jacket and Pants

You don't need a custom build. Try the BMW Comfortshell suit. I have one and it is the best money can buy. Great all year gear...especially in Florida. Spendy...but worth it.
The other one to check is the Olympia Summer suit. Great stuff...a friend bought it and it is really made well. Great for Summer in Florida.

Re: Jacket and Pants

Oh that's REAL easy cause you have a large budget: www.motoport.com

FULL costume build however you want. Expensive but the best.

Re: Jacket and Pants

I wear Olympia Air-Glide 2 pants and just ordered Vanson Vent-Max 3 jacket.
The pants zip up the side from hip down so I wear shorts under them and just remove when I stop and can keep my boot on to walk around.

I've seen um too, BAD. But the short boots do help some, though not much.

Re: Jacket and Pants

My .02, the simultaneous needs of waterproof without placing a liner and comfort (=good air flow) in hot weather are mutually exclusive. The same barrier(s) that prevent water ingress also prevent good air flow. My example a BMW Streetguard 2, superb waterproofness, all the "gizmos" Gore-Tex XCR, TFL Cool system, underarm vents, when it is very hot the suit is hot, largely due to lack of air flow. For the really hot days I have a Motoport Air Kevlar mesh, however those same openings let in every drop of rain that falls.

When I take long trips I use the SG because I don't want to pack rain gear. I also tolerate heat very well, but everyone is different so you have to see for yourself how comfortable you can be in a waterproof suit when it is hot. It all comes down to balancing the levels of waterproofness and air flow. Happy suit hunting.

Re: Jacket and Pants

Ditto on Olympia - great stuff!

Meanwhile, what's wrong with knee high, white Go-go boots and hot pants? Now that's stylin'!!

Take care,
Chris

I have a BMW Venting Machine and was wondering how the Comfortshell would compare.
