Galveston man dies in crash involving 5 motorcycles

Two people were killed — including a Galveston man — and five others were injured in a five-motorcycle crash in Lufkin on the Fourth of July, authorities said.

Robert Benjamin Boren, 42, of Galveston, was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson west on Recreation Road 255 just west of the Sam Rayburn Dam before midnight when he crossed the center line and struck 60-year-old Donald Mitchell Jackson, of Wells, who was eastbound on his 2005 Yamaha, Texas Department of Public Safety authorities said.

Boren and Jackson were both pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities said Boren was not wearing a helmet and it was unclear if Jackson had one on.

Arthur Warren Wright, 56, of Lufkin, who was also driving east on his Harley, then drove through the crash and struck Jackson, authorities said. Wright was taken to Lufkin Memorial Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition with a broken leg.

Two other motorcyclists — Floyd Nolan Wall, 40, of Diboll, and Todd Morgan Weller, 33, of Alvin, also crashed after they were able to lay down their bikes, authorities said. They were both taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The passenger on Wall's bike, Christi Renee Wall, 34, and the passenger on Weller's motorcycle, 12-year-old Taylor Weller, were also taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released, authorities said.

Tough holiday weekend all over the fruited plains. A lot of people nutted up. (Just like every holiday weekend, I guess).

There, fixed it. I always think the truth ought to be in news articles.

Now that is correct. Bravo!!

Why is it always about "laying down the bike"? Who comes up with that crap?

"Oh, yes, I could not slow down the machine with its quadruple-disk brakes on ultra-wide sticky tires - so I elected to dump it onto the ground and burn off speed by rubbing my skin against the pavement instead." Yeah.

This reminds me so much of a post here, I believe by DaveDragon, that relayed a news item about an off-duty cop that supposedly was squeezed out of his lane by a truck and saved himself my jumping off his bike. By jumping off his bike! Just imagine the scene for a moment!

And that reminds me of a crash that happened around here several months ago. A computer engineer was riding two-up with his wife on their Road King. He decided that he’d take a right hand turn like a dirt bike — right foot down in the turn. His foot gets swept up under the saddlebag, and snap-crackle-pop goes his ankle. They both then proceeded to asphalt surf in their T-shirts for a bit.

Thank you for doing that. I get so tired of people talking about "laying down their bikes". A woman who goes to our church just crashed her little metric cruiser. She's only been riding about two months. She said that she ran off the road and had to lay down her bike. I said, "Do you mean that you got target fixation and ran off the road." She gave me a blank look . . and she hasn't spoken to me since.

Thanks for fixing a news article that was copied and pasted from the Houston Chronicle which is an area news paper and one I don't think you get in Cali tlash. Nothing like changing a black and white news article, glad you where there to sort the facts out and correct the terrible inaccuracies of this horrible accident in which two people where killed.
