Went to a BMW dealer...

...and bought a Triumph.

The LT is gone, traded off on an '08 Triumph Tiger 1050 ABS in Blazing Orange. I already know there's one member here who understands this move completely (hey DMBoerne).

Maybe I'm becoming a minimalist in my old age, but this type of bike just appeals to me right now. Everything you need and nothing you don't. With fluids the bike comes in ~500 lbs, good power, great brakes, and for me an excellent riding position. The color is definitely polarizing, but you sure can see it coming.

It won't be busting up any fire breaks, but the Tiger is no longer even marketed as a dual sport. Part hooligan bike, part sport bike, and what I feel will be a more than adequate touring platform albeit without all the amenities we love about the LT. The seat is even good enough to run Gail out of gas on the Spyder.

Somewhere in a lonely straight 'n flat SW Florida...

Congrats, Dave! I really like the new Tiger, I think they hit the nail on the head with that one. You're going to have a blast on that bike.

I think you and Gail may win the "most new toys" award at CCR!

Hey, Dave - you need to ping Dave. He's deep into farkeling his Tiger (same color as yours). Sumpthin' new every time we have our Friday morning get-together at World Kkaaffeee Hqtrs. Likes it so much, he took it to East Tejas with Kathy on the back, rather than take the LT (which is up for sale). Sez it's a great commuter scooter, and I guess that's why he's grinnin' more on Fridays lately!!

Enjoy, Dave. Santa does come mid-year after all!!!

Re: Went to a BMW dealer...

Here in South Africa the Maintenance and Service on these bikes are really extreme. Many was sold and many has now been traded because of this.

A bad day on the bike beats a good day in the office.

Congratulations, Dave. I did a demo ride of the Tiger a few weeks ago at my local dealer. Wow. "Addictive" is the word I was thinking of. So much lighter, more responsive, etc.

Re: Went to a BMW dealer...

A friend of mine traded his FJR in on a Tiger and absolutely loves it. He rides it hard in the twisties and says it's so much more managable than the FJR. It's down on power compared to the FJR, but a lot more fun he says.

And Dick's right. You need to talk to Dave Moore.

Yup, I recognized Hoog's newbie post on the tiger1050.com site and pinged him there. Bought mine two months ago and still adding farkles One thing I can't find (yet) are peg lowerers for the pillion pegs. But I have a friend who will machine them if needed. Then mebbe I can get Kathy back on the Tiger. It is a very fun bike. Makes it hard to get back on the LT.

Anyway, found a buyer for Green Chile Pepper. A fellow in Dallas is buying it. Should consummate the deal this weekend.

Hey Dave I'm jumpin' in with both feet. Here's what's coming

Factory Bags
Ventura Rack 'n 51 liter pack
Driving/Fog lights
Pipe (w/remap)
Center stand
GPS harness
Throttle Meister
Auxiliary socket
Engine Guards

Might go with a Scott Oiler too, haven't made up my mind on that one yet. The trip to Utah should wear me out on oiling the chain...

What am I forgetting?

Tell ya what, I was really shocked at how much extra room I have in the garage now. Compared to the Tiger, that LT was one big mamba jamba!

Hey Dave,

Welcome to the club.... I went from a Vstrom to the LT and back to the Vstrom as I maintain the older you get the lighter the bike you should be riding... I think the Dual Sport ride is the best of both worlds...
Comfort and sportbike handling.

Had the Triumph dealer been here when I bought my Second DL I might have opted for the ABS Tiger 1050 Myself!

Re: Went to a BMW dealer...

When in Little Rock a while back, I stopped by the BMW store to have new tires put on my GT. The owner (James) very kindly loaned me a new Tiger to take to lunch while the work was done. I immediately felt comfortable on that bike and had a short but sweet "affair" with it. Some bikes make you want to find reasons to ride more and some just function. The Triumph Tiger really is exciting and fun to ride!
Thanks to James and all who made that "service" visit so memorable!
Great bike!!

Re: Went to a BMW dealer...

Interesting.... I went from an 06 wee-strom to an 07 Tiger to an 08 LT. I LOVE the LT. Road the Tiger to the BMW dealer on a demo day to ride a GT, and then road home on the LT.

Tiger has a great engine, and was great as a commuter, but never floated myboat the way the LT does.

Really recommend the Campbell pipes from the UK - pricey but they look GOOD.

Guess that is why they make more than one bike.

Enjoy!!

OK, take this:

OEM center stand and heated grips
CalSci +9" windscreen with Saeng edging
Tank-ring mount electrified 6.5L tank bag (Bags Connection, Twisted Throttle) wired with 3 aux sockets in tank bag
Autocom + XM radio + Garmin iQue 3600 nav (transplanted from LT; using RAM mounts)
Handlebar risers (Twisted Throttle)
SW-Moto rack and Givi V46 rear case with LED brake lights (Twisted Throttle, addmorelighting.com)
Brake light flashers (Signal Dynamics)
Throttle lock (Kaoko)
Hawke chain oiler (en route from Florida)
Front fender extender
H7 HID low beam (xenonlink.com)
Homemade chain guard extender
Airvent 13x13 perf leather cushion
Grip puppies, throttle rocker

That should do me for trip to Phoenix in August,

Future:
Pillion peg lowering brackets
Trax Aluma-box luggage system (factory back ordered until Sept)
Crash bars (SW-Moto)
Aux lighting
OEM alarm system on order
Sidetrax hugger (extends rear fender and chain guard in one piece)

I didn't order a Scott oiler because they are fixed delivery rate and gravity fed. The Hawke and the ProOiler have positive solenoid pumping action. Although the Hawke is pushbutton (manual), I plan to add a timing sequencer circuit to drive it. Cheaper than the ProOiler.

Farkle on!
