Shelf Life of Synthetic Oil?

Any idea's what the shelf life is of an unopened case of synthetic oil?

Greetings, Tom!

Answers vary from 5 years to indefinite, depending on the manufacturer. For instance, Mobile 1 says "5 years." I guess some of the additives that are necessary for maximum engine protection could break down with time, in theory.

I have always heard that once you open it, the clock starts ticking. Especially with radiator fluid.
