Blown speakers

My stereo speakers are toast, well almost, but they need replacing. So do I hafta order new ones from BMW or can I go aftermarket and get something else (probably less $$$).

Has anyone replaced their speakers yet? with what? and how hard was the install?

As always thanks in advance

Tom

Hopefully it is just the speakers. My '01 LT went in for new speakers under warranty (2002?). I got new speakers but it didn't fix the problem. The audio power amp was blown and BMW gave me a whole new radio system.

Re: Blown speakers

Many of us have changed speakers and there are posts here on the website. A very good one was by Pete Van Dyke.
Aftermarket speakers are they way to go; you have to decide if you want waterproof ones or not. Search the threads, find the brand you like and check eBay for some good prices. Replacing the speakers is a DIY project; it just takes a little time but well worth the effort. Personally, I went with the Alpines. Many of us, including me, would be happy to walk you through it if you have a problem or concern.
