All Sportbike 'Stunters' Beware

I know this has been discussed several times before but there seems to be a
renewed push to crack down on this. I for one would just like to see something done, but at the same time not go 'overboard' with enforcement so that it spills into responsible people like us who just like to cruise in the LT's sweet spot and not get snagged as well...ok enough said ...

I would say that 99.9% of cops could careless what you ride, unless they belong to a riding group or board then they kind've understand.

Re: All Sportbike 'Stunters' Beware

I agree! They are just following orders from 1 Police Plaza or the Mayor's office. I don't want this to turn into another Police Bashing thread.

The fact is that NYPD and Mayor Bloomburg have targeted anyone on a motorcycle for harassment.

In the NYC area, there are a great many unlicensed riders. I'm sure NYPD has shared this with the Mayors office and they are targeting all riders to increase revenues into the City's coffers. Between the tickets and paying to get a bike out of impound, this will help offset a budget deficit.

Case in point, in the link I included above, the thread includes a story a rider of who was riding her bike in the HOV lane of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway which is an extension of the Long Island Expressway. On the LIE, you are allowed to ride in the HOV lane with a motorcycle. There are signs at every exit/entrance to the lane except when you get to the City limits. Then, you are fair game to be ticketed . There are NO signs warning you of the change in rules. Simply cross over the county line and WHAM! You can get ticketed!

Believe it or not, I consider myself a big supporter of Bloomburg but these tactics have me thinking twice.

I too do not want, nor have any interest in a Police Bashing Thread and that was not the reason for posting. I would like to say that I appreciate and have great respect for what the LEO's do on a daily basis, some seen some not seen, so I really want to make that clear.

Re: All Sportbike 'Stunters' Beware

All the talk about bikes and such just depresses me.

I ride everyday. The largest concern out there is folks talking on their cell phone while operating their car or truck.

I experience about one incident each week, while on my bike, where I have to dodge a car. Many times it's a soccer mom driving a Tahoe and yacking away on the phone and not paying any attention to traffic.

I'm afraid my obituary is going to read "Hit by a cell phone operating driver while riding his motorcycle." And I'm not joking.

This is one area where Law Enforcement should concentrate.

Re: All Sportbike 'Stunters' Beware

We have a thread on the Ducati site going about this very same subject. We had a rider pulled over just because he was riding, not doing a thing and told him they are cracking down on all riders. Another rider was issued a ticket for the carpool lane and had to fight it in court twice (the first judge found the rider guilty!).

another NON-ISSUE?!

This is what I call a non-issue. Those "stunters" riding around like fools do not last very long. We all know what happens to them--usually sooner than later.

Why would you give chase to one of these fools at over 120mph? You're just endangering yourself and the community, which you're supposed to be protecting. If someone gets killed during one of these wild pursuits, the D/A is going to be looking at your ass for reckless disregard of the communities' safety.

These squids cannot keep their mouth shut, either. They're gonna' get stupid on their web sites or with their friends. They all park their bikes somewhere. This is what intel, informants, and arrest warrants are for.

Thank you for that blunt and droll sense of humor. If you cannot laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
