First time for everything.

I've drop a bike before, in parking lots, but never on the road and moving at road speeds. Saturday I found my self going along Rt 14 in the left lane problem was my bike was sliding on her right side in the right lane. It was raining but not hard at the time. I've ridden in a lot heaver stuff no problem. I was making a right turn off the freeway and during the turn I notice the rear wheel stopped gripping, and down she went. My guardian angel was very good to me. Just a small hole in my tourmaster pants, I got away with just a skinned knee, (just missing the knee pad) and a tiny bruise on the hip. The elbow pad worked perfectly on my tourmaster jacket. Not a scratch on the helmet. The bike protected itself very well considering. Right Jpeg shave off some stock punched a tiny hole in the tupperware, bent the brake peddle and of course stripped the trim on the saddle bag. More luck, motorists didn't run me over and stopped to ask if I was OK and helped me get the bike back up. Kind or renews my faith in the basic goodness of people.

Mike,

I'm glad to hear you are OK and the bike is minimally damaged. Thanks for sharing this tale.

Re: First time for everything.

Mike,

Glad to hear your gear did its job . . . hope you mend well!

I was hit by a car a few weeks ago and dropped the beast - $5,000 damage. Had the gear on and was able to roll around and besides a minor helmet scratches no issues.

About the rain - was it raining at the time, early on or just after and last question - Metzlers or Bridgestones!!

No lets not start that tire war again. Blame it on the idiot rider who put one too many miles (or a thousand too many) on the tire, or oil on the road, or rain or whatever. BTW getting new tires.

Re: First time for everything.

Michael,
Glad you weren't seriously hurt. I'll wager though that today you are feeling sore spots in places where you didn't think were affected. Adrenalin is a great paint killer!

Ride safe on your new tires . . .

You are so right, on that. I did notice a few more sore spots. I must of rolled once or twice before I ended up in the feet first slide into home base position. Glad I had the gloves and boots too.

But we really, really want to know....

We don't need to debate it. But just want to know what worn out tire you were running.

I'm playing it safe. Bridgstone on the rear and Metzler on the front...

Alright, here you go. I just put on a set of NEW Me 880s today. I still believe in them, after they got me home safe in a much worse situation.

The stupid thing was I usually get new tires when I get the 12K maint done. This time I didn't because I went to a different dealer and they don't keep tires for the LT and just don't want to compete with tires, so I was going to get the tires at yet another dealer but had to wait. Broke my own rules, and got bit. So bottom line is, I should of..., or could of..., or would of..., but didn't.
