K1200LT XM radio installation

: I recently purchased a 2008 K1200LT which is my first BMW. I am going to install an XM radio on it and I am needing some advice on where to get a manual or CD for this bike without breaking the bank on the purchase. I am experienced in working on bikes but I would like some guidance before I start removing parts to run the cables.

Go to the technical section on the forum and download the Tupperware removal documents & any others you see of interest. That can get you started. I also bought a Clymers manual from the dealer. The factory service manual on PDF is available on the net if you look for it or eBay if you'd rather pay someone else to have found it for you. Neither copy would be a legal purchase, however.

Thanks for the info. I think if I can get the wrapper off I will be good to go.
I am just scared of damaging some of the plastic pieces. Metal I am OK with.

I have an '03 and the Clymer for 1998 -2005 covers pretty much everything. I am sure most of it would work for the '08.

Re: K1200LT XM radio installation

The first time you take the tupperware off, you'll take way too much time. It gets a lot faster after that! Just get the proper torx fittings for an electric screwdriver, and it'll come apart fast!

When screwing it back together, make sure torque setting on said electric screwdriver is set very low...

Also, it is a lot faster to remove lower fairing if you take the metal crash bar off, after you've gotten the plastic cover off of it.

You can route wires up to the front without removing the upper fairing, but it's kind of hard to describe how to snake the wires under the right side of the stingray without actually showing you. A coat hanger works for snaking it through, just over the gas tank, but under the tupperware.

I learned this little trick at a tech session. Keep your eyes open for one nearby - they are priceless!
